ASSUMPTION OF OFFICE ADDRESS BY THE COMMANDANT OF THE NIGERIA POLICE ACADEMY, WUDIL, KANO STATE
Distinguished invited guests, senior officers, traditional leaders, staff, cadet members of the press, ladies, and gentle men
Good morning, all.
It is with a deep sense of gratitude to Almighty (ALLAH) and profound humility that I stand before you today to formally assume office as the Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil. I am grateful to God for His protection, guidance, and the opportunity to continue serving my country in this new capacity.
I would like to sincerely thank the 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, for giving me the privilege and opportunity to serve as the Commandant of this outstanding institution. I deeply appreciate the confidence he has placed in me. I fully acknowledge the significance of this responsibility.
This appointment is a call to serve and contribute to the development of the Nigeria Police Force and our country, not merely a title. I assure the Inspector-General of Police of my loyalty, support, and commitment to the vision and leadership of the Force.
The Nigeria Police Academy is a special institution. It is not simply a place where people come to study or receive police training.
Young men and women prepare for a profession that places enormous responsibility on their shoulders here. Here, future police leaders acquire the knowledge, skills, discipline, and values necessary to serve the Nigerian people.
I am therefore fully aware of the responsibility that comes with leading this academy, and I accept it with humility and a sincere determination to do my very best.
I also want to thank my predecessor and the many officers and staff who helped this academy progress.
We cannot progress effectively if we forget our origins. The achievements we have today are the result of the efforts of those who have served before us.
My approach will therefore not be to discard what has been achieved, but to build on it. Where things are working, we will strengthen them. Where improvements are needed, we will address them. And where there are opportunities to do better, we will pursue them.
As I take over today, I want us to understand that the success of the Nigeria Police Academy cannot be the responsibility of the Commandant alone.
I will need the support of everyone here. Every officer, lecturer, instructor, member of staff, cadet, resident of the barracks, and member of our host community has a role to play. This is our academy, and its success should be something we all take personal pride in.
My leadership will be based on fairness, discipline, integrity, accountability, respect, and teamwork.
I believe that treating people with fairness and dignity enhances their performance, but I also believe that every right and privilege must be accompanied by responsibility. I will actively seek beneficial ideas, encourage constructive suggestions, and maintain an open-door policy.
At the same time, I will expect everyone to take his or her duties seriously and to give the Academy the best of their ability.
I want to particularly emphasize neatness and cleanliness. These may appear to be simple things, but they tell a tremendous deal about who we are.
A clean office, a neat hostel, a well-kept compound, a properly maintained facility, and a smartly dressed officer all reflect discipline and pride. We should not wait for someone else to remind us to clean our offices, our hostels, our homes, or our surroundings. Keeping the academy clean is everyone's responsibility. I want us to take pride in the appearance of this institution and ensure that anyone who visits the Nigeria Police Academy leaves with the impression that it is a disciplined, organized, and well-managed institution.
Today, as we hoist the National Flag and the Nigeria Police Flag, we are reminded of the sacred duty we owe to our nation and to the Nigeria Police Force. The Nigeria Police Academy serves as the citadel of learning, shaping the future leaders of the NPF.
To our dear cadets, I want you to know that you are at the center of everything we do here. You are not only students; you are future officers and future leaders of the Nigeria Police Force. Your actions today shape the kind of officer you will become tomorrow.
Take your studies seriously.
Take your training seriously. Listen to your instructors and learn from those who have gone ahead of you. Respect one another and the rules of the Academy. Most importantly, develop positive character. Your training will have tough days, but those challenges prepare you for future responsibilities.
Remember that the uniform you wear is a symbol of trust. When you eventually leave this academy, Nigerians will expect you to protect them, respect their rights, uphold the law, and act with courage and compassion. Always let your character guide the authority that comes with the police uniform.
I assure you that your welfare and development will remain important to my administration. We will continue to work toward providing an environment where you can learn, train, and develop effectively.
But I also expect you to play your part by being disciplined, hardworking, respectful, and committed to excellence.
To our officers, lecturers, instructors, researchers, and members of staff, I thank you for the work you have been doing.
I know that working in an institution like this academy requires sacrifice and commitment. The Academy's success relies heavily on the often unseen and unappreciated work that occurs behind the scenes.
I ask for your cooperation as we move forward. Let us support one another and work as a team. Let us be punctual, responsible, professional, and fair in the way we deal with one another.
Whatever your rank or position, we are all contributing to the same mission. If we do our jobs well, our cadets will benefit, the academy will grow, and ultimately the Nigeria Police Force will benefit.
Thank you to the traditional rulers, community and religious leaders, women, youth, and residents of Wudil and surrounding areas for your strong support of the Nigeria Police Academy. We recognize that the Academy is part of this community, and we cannot succeed without your understanding and cooperation.
We will continue to engage with you, listen to your concerns, and work with you in areas where our interests meet.
Security is a shared responsibility, and a peaceful community benefits everyone. I assure you that the Academy will continue to be a supportive neighbor and a responsible partner to the people around us.
To the officers, families, and residents of the Academy Barracks, I also recognize your importance to the life of this institution.
When our personnel have peaceful homes and a stable environment, they are better able to perform their duties. I encourage everyone to live together peacefully, respect one another, keep the environment clean, and take proper care of government property. Let us make the barracks a place where families can live with dignity, peace, and a sense of belonging.
As we look ahead, my goal is straightforward: to build on what we have inherited and make the Nigeria Police Academy even better. We will continue to support academic excellence, professional police training, research, technology, innovation, infrastructure development, staff development, and the welfare of our cadets and personnel.
However, we must always prioritize the people, beyond just buildings, equipment, technology, and programs.
An institution is ultimately as strong as the people who work and learn in it. We must therefore build a culture where discipline is respected, hard work is valued, appropriate conduct is encouraged, and everyone feels a sense of responsibility for the success of the Academy.
I cannot guarantee that we will avoid challenges.
There will certainly be challenges. What I promise is that we will face them together, honestly and constructively. We will learn from our mistakes, celebrate our achievements, and continually look for ways to improve.
As I conclude, I ask for your support, cooperation, understanding, and prayers. I have come here to serve, and I intend to do so with humility, fairness, and commitment. I want us to look back at the end of this tenure and be able to say that, together, we made a positive difference.
Let us therefore work together. Let us keep the academy clean. Let us uphold discipline. Let us respect one another. Let us strive to excel in our responsibilities. And above all, let us remember that whatever we do here ultimately contributes to the security and future of our country.
With the support of the Inspector-General of Police, dedicated officers and staff, committed cadets, and cooperative host communities, I am confident we can elevate the Nigeria Police Academy.
May Almighty God guide us, grant us wisdom, and strengthen us in the discharge of our responsibilities.
May God bless the Nigeria Police Academy.
May God bless the Nigeria Police Force.
And may God continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Thank you, and God bless you all.
