To mark this year’s International Women’s Day, International Budget Partnership Nigeria is hosting a timely conversation around a critical question for public finance:

Who really benefits when public budgets ignore gender?

Too often, gender-blind fiscal policies quietly shape economic priorities in ways that deepen inequality leaving women to shoulder disproportionate burdens, from unpaid care work to limited access to health services and economic opportunities.

Join us for the webinar “Give to Gain: Financing Gender Justice for Sustainable Development” as we explore how fiscal decisions can either reinforce inequality or become powerful tools for building fairer, more inclusive systems.

Date: March 9
Time: 7:00 PM

Be part of the conversation on how public finance can work better for women and for everyone.

Empowering Women. Strengthening Governance. Improving Healthcare.

Last Week The Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) Kano State Chapter, in partnership with the International Budget Partnership (IBP), successfully hosted a Two-Day Targeted Capacity-Building Workshop for women in Ward Development Committees (WDCs).
The workshop focused on strengthening women’s leadership, healthcare governance, and financial management skills—equipping participants to actively contribute to primary healthcare decision-making and accountability processes.
Together, we are advancing inclusive governance and building stronger community health systems in Kano State.

A budget line can be the difference between a mother coming home or not.

In Nigeria, maternal mortality is still about 993 deaths per 100,000 live births (2023).
That number isn’t fate. It’s a financing and accountability problem.

In this advocacy video, Fatima Bashir turns personal tragedy into public action organizing communities to track health spending, show up with evidence, and push decision-makers to respond. The result: a ₦500 million increase for maternal health budgets in northern Nigeria.

If budgets are choices, then saving women’s lives must be a choice we fund and a choice we enforce.
Watch. Share. And ask the hard question: where is the money for maternal health going in your state?
