As part of the activities marking the birthday of our Executive Director, Huzaifa Jamil Kmata , Girl's Gate Initiative For Empowerment And Development took the celebration beyond the ordinary through our Birthday with Impact initiative.

In collaboration with ThriveHer health initiative , Bilkisu Mai Iyali , and Hidaya Ahmad, we visited the Kano Correctional Custodial Centre, Kurmawa, where we spent meaningful time with women in custody—creating a space for connection, learning, encouragement and hope.

The visit featured an engaging session on health and hygiene, as well as important conversations around mental health, emotional wellbeing and self-care. We also shared practical guidance aimed at helping the women better understand and care for themselves.

This is what Birthday with Impact means to us: choosing to celebrate life by serving others, creating meaningful connections and giving hope where it is needed.

As part of the Faith & Cultural Champions (FCC) Project, Girl’s Gate Initiative (GGI) implemented a range of community-centred activities designed to strengthen awareness, encourage informed conversations and promote positive action around Child birth spacing.

Through community engagement, dialogue, digital advocacy and targeted sensitisation, we worked with women, families, young people and community stakeholders to promote informed decision-making and encourage healthier practices.

Last week, our Executive Director, Umar Aminu Umar, paid a courtesy visit to the Kano office of Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative WRAPA Nigeria

The visit provided an opportunity to connect, share experiences and discuss areas of possible collaboration, particularly around strengthening the rights, protection and participation of women and girls.

We also discussed the importance of building stronger partnerships among civil society organisations to create more opportunities for girls and young women to learn, lead, speak up and participate meaningfully in their communities.

We look forward to building on this conversation and exploring ways we can work together to advance the rights and opportunities of women and girls.

A New Chapter of Partnership 🤝

Within the week, Girl's Gate Initiative For Empowerment And Development (GGI) is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bridge Connect (BCAI).

Over the years, Bridge Connect Africa Initiative has been more than a partner to Girl’s Gate Initiative. They have been like a big sister organisation guiding us, supporting us, encouraging our growth, and standing with us through different stages of our journey.

This partnership is a reflection of the trust and relationship we have built over time, and our shared commitment to doing more together for girls, young women, and our communities.

We sincerely appreciate the entire BCAI team for believing in us and for the support they have continued to give to Girl’s Gate Initiative.
