As part of our commitment to bridging the digital gap among girls in Northern Nigeria, Girls Gate Initiative for Empowerment and Development carried out a digital literacy and UME preparedness session at GGSS Kofar Kudu, Kano.

This activity follows our recent participation in a Training of Trainers organized by CCentre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD)under the Agenda WINNIG project.

During the session, girls were introduced to basic computer skills, digital hygiene, and how to better prepare for computer-based exams like UTME. For many of them, this was their first exposure to practical digital learning.

We remain committed to reaching more girls across Kano State and ensuring they are better prepared for the digital world and upcoming examinations.

After the remarkable success of the 1st edition, the growth and deeper impact of the 2nd edition, and the groundbreaking 3rd edition last year, which engaged and empowered thousands of girls and young women, the She Is the Future Conference continues to rise as a transformative platform shaping the next generation of female leaders.

This year’s edition promises to be our most impactful yet bold, innovative, and truly first of its kind, bringing together girls, young women, mentors, industry leaders, and changemakers to explore leadership, technology, future skills, and opportunities for the digital age.

We are building more than a conference we are building a movement where girls are inspired, equipped, and positioned to lead and thrive.

We are now calling on partners organizations, institutions, and development actors — to collaborate with us in creating meaningful, scalable, and lasting impact.

We are also inviting sponsors who are passionate about girls’ empowerment, education, and digital inclusion to support this year’s conference and be part of a platform that is transforming lives at the grassroots.

Together, we can open doors, amplify voices, and create opportunities for girls and young women to step confidently into the future.

Bridging the Gender Digital Divide in Northern Nigeria

Many girls and women in Northern Nigeria still lack basic computer literacy — a barrier that continues to limit their education and economic opportunities.

Girl's Gate Initiative For Empowerment And Development recently had the privilege to participate in a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) alongside other civil society organizations and key government institutions in the education sector from Kano and Bauchi States.

The training was organized by Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) under the project “Addressing Gender Digital Divide and Expanding Business Opportunities for Women and Girls in Northern Nigeria (Agenda WINNIG).”

During the session, CITAD shared findings revealing a significant number of girls and women who fail the UME examinations in Kano due to limited computer skills, particularly their inability to operate a computer system.

The project focuses on closing key gaps for girls and women in Northern Nigeria through:

📌Digital Literacy
📌Digital Hygiene
📌UME Preparedness (for final-year secondary school students)

In response, GGI is committed to cascading this knowledge to 120 girls and women in Kano State within the next six months — ensuring improved digital literacy and awareness, stronger readiness to the digital ecosystem and continuous community impact.

Our immediate priority is supporting learners with UME preparation, as the exam is fast approaching

Girl's Gate Initiative For Empowerment And Development stands for Heart-to-Heart conversation.

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, we organized a community conversation between the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and women and girls from the community.

This year, we chose a different approach. No slides, no PowerPoints, and no high table. Just open heart-to-heart conversation.

It was a one-on-one, community-centered discussion where real stories, experiences and insights from NHRC’s work, helping to inspire practical, community-driven actions in protecting and promoting human rights. .

The goal is simple: listen, learn, and strengthen collective action to protect and promote the rights of women and girls.

The time for silence in protecting the rights of women and girls has passed. Now is the time for voices, dialogue, and action.

The human rights are MANY, can you guess our focus tomorrow?

for the first person who guess it correct.
