I find it odd that we use words like "miscreants", "hoodlums" "gangsters", etc for protesters but are very civil with the words we deploy for those in the executives, judiciary and legislatives arms of government who, in their deliberate maladministration brought about the whole shenanigans in the first place? PERSEVERANCE

"Every noble work is at first impossible." -Carlyle.

Do you know the story of the two frogs that fell into a bucket of cream? They tried very hard to get out by climbing up the side of the bucket. But each time they slipped back again.

Finally one frog said: 'We'll never get out of here. I give up.' So down he went and drowned. The other frog decided to keep trying. Again and again he tried to climb with his front legs and kicked with his back back legs. Suddenly he hit something hard. He turned to see what it was and discovered that all his kicking had churned up a lump of butter! He hopped on top of it and leaped out to safety.

MAN FOR OTHERS -UNSELFISHNESS

"The love of liberty is the love of others; the love of power is the love of ourselves." -William Hazlitt

They are slaves who fear to speak
For the fallen and the weak;
They are slaves who will not choose
Hatred, scoffing and abuse,
Rather in silence shrink
From the truth they needs must think;
They are slaves who dare not be
In the right with two or three.
-James Russell Lowell.

Me: "If a man is centred upon himself, the smallest risk is too great for him, because both success and failure can destroy him. If he is centred upon God, then no risk is too great, because success is already guaranteed - the successful union of Creator and creature, beside which everything else is meaningless." -Morris West.

Folks, whatever hardships there are, all will be well. Stay blessed.

CIVIC DUTY 2

"Nothing is politically right which is morally wrong." -Daniel O'Connell

The story is told of a king who placed a heavy stone in the road and then hid and watched to see who would remove it. Men of various classes came and worked their way round it, some loudly blaming the king for not keeping the highways clear, but all dodging the duty of getting it out of the way. At last a poor peasant on his way to town with his burden of vegetables for sale came, and, contemplating the stone, laid down his load, and rolled the stone into the gutter. Then, turning round, he spied a purse that had lain right under the stone. He opened it and found it full of gold pieces with a note from the king saying it was for the one who should remove the stone. -Indian Christian

Me: "Citizens should develop a generous and loyal devotion to their country, but without any narrowing of mind. In other words, they must always look simultaneously to the welfare of the whole human family, which is tied together by the manifold bonds linking races, peoples, and nations." -Second Vatican Council 'The Church Today'.

Have a wonderfully responsible day, fellow citizens.

RELATIONSHIPS

"All you need is 'Yes' if you mean yes, 'No' if you mean no." Matt. 5:37

"Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts." -Charles Dickens.

"You don't make your words true by embellishing them with religious lace. In making your speech sound more religious, it becomes less true. Just say 'yes' and 'no.' When you manipulate words to get your own way, you go wrong." -Matt. 5:36, 37.

A blind man and a lame man happened to come at the same time to a piece of very bad road. The former begged the latter to guide him through his difficulties. 'How can I do that', said the lame man, 'as I am scarcely able to drag myself along? But if you were to carry me I can warn you about anything in the way; my eyes will be your eyes and your feet will be mine.' 'With all my heart', replied the blind man. 'Let us serve one another.' So taking his lame companion on his back, they travelled in this way with safety and pleasure. -Aesop.

"But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one." -Matt. 5:37.

THE GOOD SHEPHERD

"I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd is one who lays down his life for his sheep." John 10:11

There was once a man who owned several hundred sheep. His servants used to take these sheep out for feeding, and each evening, as they brought them back, they found two or three missing. He asked his servants to go and look for them, but for fear of wild beasts, they did not trouble themselves about them. The owner had a love for them and wanted to save them. 'If I go myself, searching for these sheep, they will not recognize me, as they have not seen me before. They would recognize my servants, but the servants will not go. So I must become like a sheep. He went out and found that some had gone astray and some had been wounded. They readily followed him, thinking he was a sheep like one of themselves. He brought them in and sat with them and fed them. When he had saved all the sheep and brought them home, then he took off his sheep skin. He was not sheep, but man. He became a sheep in order to save those lost sheep. So God is not man, He became man in order to save men. -Sadhu Sundar Singh

Me: The Gospel, succinctly enunciated. The question is: How much has it ever cost you to save a soul? How much will it cost you?

T A L K 2

Don't say all you'd like to say lest you hear something you wouldn't like to hear. -Seumas MacManus.

On one occasion when Mohamet and his friend Ali were together, they met a man who, imagining some ill-treatment, began abusing Ali.

Ali bore the insults for a long while, but at last lost patience and returned railing for railing. When Mohamet heard this, he walked away, and left the two disputants to settle their differences as best they could. When, later on, Ali met Mohamet, he asked reproachfully, 'Why did you go away like that and leave me to bear such insults alone?' Mohamet replied, 'My friend, while that rude man was insulting you so cruelly and you kept silent there were ten angels guarding you and answering him; but as soon as you began returning his insults they left you, and I also came away.' -Anonymous.

CIVIC DUTY

"The office of government is not to confer happiness but to give men opportunity to work out happiness for themselves." -William Ellery Channing.

Few people are aware that the word 'Govern' comes from the Latin term 'guberno' meaning 'to steer a ship.'

This thought was graphically illustrated by one man who said that a 'dictatorship is like a high-powered ocean liner. It can go straight ahead at a fast clip. The danger is that it may hit an iceberg.'

'Democracy,' he added, 'is like a log raft. You can't guide the thing very well; you wallow all over the place; your feet are always wet.'

'But you can never sink a log raft,' he concluded, 'and if you keep trying you eventually get there. That's what we've got to do, keep trying.'

The inefficiencies of self-government are often exasperating. But it is within the power of citizens, thank God, to right most wrongs.

Me: A lesson that our country learned early and well, and which some countries unfortunately never learned or learned too late, is that each citizen had better take an active interest in running his country or he may suddenly find the country running him. -Art Linkletter.

Have a wonderful day, folk.

GIVE GLADLY!

"Be especially careful when you are trying to be good so that you don't make a performance out of it. It might be good theater, but the God who made you won't be applauding. When you do something for someone else, don't call attention to yourself. You've seen them in action, I'm sure—'playactors' I call them— treating prayer meeting and street corner alike as a stage, acting compassionate as long as someone is watching, playing to the crowds. They get applause, true, but that's all they get. When you help someone out, don't think about how it looks. Just do it—quietly and unobtrusively. That is the way your God, who conceived you in love, working behind the scenes, helps you out. -Matt. 6:1-4. (MSG).

Give generously. Give gladly. Give sacrificially. But keep it to yourself. Your gift is nobody's business but yours and God's. And if you make it somebody's business, then you immediately have your reward. You forfeit the opportunity to receive something even greater when you arrive in heaven. God always notices and (later) rewards faithful, sacrificial giving. But when you insist on announcing it in a half-dozen pious ways, then that's all you get. -Getting Through The Tough Stuff.

Me: If your giving isn't going to lift another up, then what is it worth to you?

In the meantime, enjoy the gift called TODAY and be grateful to God for it.
