A Miraculous Testimony: 11 Years After My Escape From Boko Haram Attack At Mubi
Today, November 2, 2025, marks 11 years since I was miraculously rescued from the clutches of death during the Boko Haram attack and capture of the city of Mubi, Adamawa State, Nigeria.
For five harrowing days, I was trapped in the house, with no access to basic necessities like food, communication, electricity, or banking. But through divine guidance and protection, I escaped, and later, disengaged from my Lecturing job at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi due to Post Disaster Trauma Disorder experience.
My Journey from Death to Life
For the five days and five nights, from Wednesday, October 29, 2014, when they struck at about 3:00Pm, with sounds of sporadic shootings and massive explosions all over the city to Sunday, November 2, 2014, I thought that as usual, all residents, went into hiding in their houses, but I was wrong.
I did not know they ran away from the city, including the Emir of Mubi Emirate and the personnel of Nigerian Army. In the process of their escape, some people were captured and killed, with their cars burnt, while some lost their certificates and credentials
The terrorists group took over the city, patrolling on horses, cars, motorcycles, bicycles and on foot.
Through divine instructions to go to Cameroun, and with divine directions and guidance, by 2:00Pm, that fateful day, I left my apartment into the scorching sun without having a clear knowledge of where my destination was located, let alone knowing how to safely and securely navigate the streets, walls and forest jungles between Mubi and Cameroun.
However, the Spirit of the Almighty God guided me, providing instructions, direction, protection, and provisions throughout my additional two days journey. Today, I'm alive to share my story and testimony.
A Tribute to Fallen Heroes and Victims
Since then, many military officers and foot soldiers have lost their lives in the line of duty. Additionally, many innocent lives have been lost, communities ravaged, children made orphans, women turned widows, and many driven from their homes and farmland, currently living in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps without adequate care.
As long as I live, I will continue to raise my voice to promote justice and peace, end insecurity and advocate for adequate care for victims of violence and conflicts.
My Story in My Words
I've documented my experience in a book, "Rescued from the Valley of Death: How I Escaped From Boko Haram Terrorists Attacks in Mubi." As a devotee of the Christian Faith, Psalm 124:1-8 resonates deeply with my experience, reminding me of God's faithfulness:
1 If the Lord had not been on our side— let Israel say—
2 if the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us,
3 they would have swallowed us alive when their anger flared against us;
4 the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us,
5 the raging waters would have swept us away.
6 Praise be to the Lord, who has not let us be torn by their teeth.
7 We have escaped like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped.
8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Gratitude and Appreciation
I thank the Lord for His faithfulness and miraculous interventions. I also appreciate the kindness and support of family, friends, and well-meaning individuals.
