Very often, I get asked about how I easily get along and sustain relationships with Muslims. Honestly, I do not know π
I am an open individual with fearless endearment to people - Christians and Muslims, with an understanding that no one chose the religion they were born into (look at me preaching! π).
It was not always like this o. I had my share of changing experience. Stay with me;
Some years back, in a tertiary hostel room, were two young women - a Christian who dreaded walking around barefooted and a Muslim who couldn't stand the Christian walking around the room in Footwear she uses outside.
The day she confronted me about it (oh, yes, I'm the Christian young womanπ) I was livid. I couldn't stop thinking "ah ah, is this your fathers house? We are both paying fees, why do I have to inconvenience myself for you?". So I kept on with my routine.
One faithful day, she opened up about why she wasn't okay with the footwear situation. She prays in the room and for her, walking in footwears I use outside, is disrespect to sacredness.
Did I understand at that time? No. What did I do? I bought a pair of flip-flops, exclusively for indoor use. I will tell you how that gesture helped and birthed this passion in me, another time.
Today, I want to tell you that there are people with established stereotypes from misconceived ideologies about religions other than theirs (and even theirs) which then reflects on how they conceive others and I have decided to do something about it.
