JUST IN: Kogi Govt Shuts Markets, Motor Parks Across Kogi West as Security Forces Intensify Operations

The Kogi State Government has ordered the temporary closure of selected markets and motor parks across parts of Kogi West Senatorial District.

The move is to support ongoing security operations aimed at flushing out bandits and terrorists, in collaboration with ONSA and security agencies.

The shutdown is designed to cut off food, movement, and logistics to criminal elements and their informants.

The temporary closure applies to markets and motor parks in the following Local Government Areas:

• Lokoja LGA: Oshokoshoko Market and Motor Park, Jakura, Ogbagbon, Agbaja, Atsawa, Obajana, Apata, Abugi, Amomi, Ebee, Budon

• Kabba-Bunu LGA: Ike Bunu, Aba Marian (Isado), Ofere, Abaa Dola (Ihale Bunu), Aiyede, Oke Offin, Aiyegunle Bunu, Okebukun, Odo Ape Bunu, Agbadu Bunu, Agbede Apa Bunu

• Yagba West LGA: Okoloke, Isanlu Esa, Okunran, Ogbe, Ejiba, Odo Eri, Igbaruku, Iyamerin, Ogga, Omi, Odo Ara, Oke Ere

• Mopamuro LGA: Otafun Amuro, Oroke Amuro, Takete Ide Amuro, Okeagi, Illai, Ilemo, Ijagbe

The government confirms major progress:

16 kidnapped victims rescued from the camp of notorious bandit leader Kachalla Battijo in Tunga Forest.

The camp has been overrun by security forces.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has restated a zero-ransom, zero-negotiation policy with bandits.

Authorities admit the closures will cause temporary hardship, but insist it’s a necessary sacrifice for lasting peace.

The shutdown will be lifted immediately after operations conclude.

Residents are urged to cooperate fully as movements will be closely monitored.

Fayose Releases Evidence of N50bn Governor Makinde Got From FG For Ibadan Explosion Victims

Two days ago, I said on a national television that Oyo State under Governor Seyi Makinde got a sum of N50bn from the Federal Government as intervention on the January 2024 explosion in Ibadan.

Yesterday, the Governor responded by asking me to provide evidence that he received such money, and here is the evidence he asked for.

Meanwhile, only N4.5bn was released to victims of the Ibadan Explosion. Rather, he diverted this fund and many others to his Presidential ambition, which is the reason for the crisis in the PDP and his attacks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his government.

Even though it is not in my character to go public with official government documents, I had to do this so that Nigerians will know who is saying the truth, and who has not been sincere with the people of Oyo State.

Most importantly, if as a governor, you have elected to go on national television to disclose part of what transpired in private meetings you had with the President, it becomes the duty of well-meaning Nigerians to give full disclosure.

Lastly, I challenge Governor Seyi Makinde to sue me on this. Let me also tell him that there are proofs of other intervention funds received from Tinubu’s administration by the Oyo State Government, which the governor refused to disclose to the people.

Also, there are documentary evidences on the actual Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Oyo State, as against Governor Makinde's claim, but we will keep our gunpowder dry for now.

My name is still Ayo Fayose, I don’t say what I can't prove.

KOGI STATE GOVERNMENT SECURITY DIRECTORY

Yuletide Season Advisory to Citizens

The Kogi State Government, through the Ministry of Information and Communications, in conjunction with the Office of the State Security Adviser, issues this Security Directory to guide citizens and residents on how to enjoy the Yuletide season while remaining vigilant and security-conscious.

The Yuletide period is a time of joy, travel, social gatherings, and renewed community bonds. However, it is also a period when criminal elements attempt to exploit increased movement and celebrations. The Government therefore urges all residents to celebrate responsibly and work collectively to keep Kogi State safe and peaceful.

PERSONAL SAFETY AND VIGILANCE

Citizens are advised to remain alert at all times, especially in crowded areas such as markets, motor parks, places of worship, and event centres. Avoid displaying large sums of cash, expensive gadgets, or jewellery that may attract criminal attention. Trust your instincts and avoid suspicious situations.

TRAVEL AND MOVEMENT ADVISORY

Motorists and travellers should plan journeys carefully, avoid travelling late at night where possible, and ensure vehicles are roadworthy. Share travel plans with trusted family members or friends, and use recognised transport services. Report abandoned vehicles or unusual movements along highways and within communities.

HOME AND COMMUNITY SECURITY

Before travelling, ensure homes and shops are properly secured. Engage neighbours, community leaders, or vigilante groups to keep watch. Communities are encouraged to strengthen neighbourhood surveillance and promptly report any strange persons or activities.

CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE PERSONS

Parents and guardians should pay close attention to children and the elderly during festivities. Children should not wander unattended, especially at night or in unfamiliar environments. Residents are urged to be cautious of child trafficking, exploitation, or abuse and to report any suspected cases immediately.

RESPONSIBLE
CELEBRATIONS

Celebrations should be conducted in an orderly and lawful manner. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption, reckless driving, and activities that may lead to violence or accidents. Firecrackers, fireworks, or any materials capable of causing harm should be handled with extreme caution or avoided altogether.

COOPERATION WITH SECURITY AGENCIES

Citizens are urged to cooperate fully with security agencies and comply with lawful security checks. Security operatives on duty are present to protect lives and property. Any impersonation of security personnel should be reported immediately. In line with the Proclamation of the Governor of Kogi State, every security agent operating in the state must properly identify himself or herself.

REPORTING AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Timely information saves lives. Citizens should promptly report suspicious movements, criminal activities, or security threats to the nearest security agency or community leaders. Do not spread unverified information that may cause panic; rely on official government communication channels.

GOVERNMENT ASSURANCE

The Kogi State Government has deployed and strengthened the security architecture across the state to ensure a peaceful Yuletide celebration. The Government remains committed to safeguarding lives and property and will respond decisively to any threat to public peace.

The Government calls on all residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and united. Security is a collective responsibility. Together, we can ensure that the Yuletide season is celebrated in peace, safety, and joy across Kogi State.
