Theme: “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights”

Today, on this International Day of the Girl Child, Paradise Mission for Widows and Teenage Girls, under the visionary leadership of Amb. Dr. Jane Egbo, joins the global community in amplifying the call to end child marriage and invest meaningfully in the rights, education, and empowerment of every girl.

For the past 23 years, our Mission has remained steadfast in prioritising the girl child. Through carefully designed education and skills acquisition programmes, we identify vulnerable, out-of-school girls and restore them to the classroom — ensuring they complete basic primary and secondary education and gain the tools to shape their own futures.

We recognise that education is one of the most powerful shields against child marriage. When a girl remains in school, she is more likely to delay marriage, protect her health, develop her potential, and contribute to her family and community. Investing in her education is therefore not only a moral imperative but a strategic investment in stronger, more equitable societies.

On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to:
- Keeping girls in school and supporting their academic journey
- Providing skills training that builds confidence and economic independence
- Advocating for the protection of girls’ rights and the elimination of practices that limit their opportunities

*On this International Day of Peace, Paradise Mission for Widows and Teenage Girls in collaboration with Plateau Peace Practitioner Network, Plateau Peace Building Agency joins the global community in affirming a timeless truth: peace is the essential foundation upon which all meaningful development rests.*

The 2026 theme — *“Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day”* — could not be more timely. As our nation approaches elections, we are reminded that sustainable progress, security, and opportunity for widows, teenage girls, and every citizen can only be harvested when we first invest deliberately in peace.

Peace is more than the absence of conflict. It is the presence of dignity, safety, dialogue, inclusion, and hope in our homes, communities, and national life. It is built daily through respect, responsible citizenship, peaceful political engagement, and the empowerment of the vulnerable.

We believe that every young person deserves access to education, guidance, and opportunities that unlock their gifts and shape a brighter future. Girl-child education and holistic development have always stood at the heart of our mission, because when a girl is educated and supported, families and communities rise with her.

On June 23, the global community observed International Widows’ Day, an annual United Nations-recognized observance dedicated to raising awareness about the unique challenges faced by widows, including poverty, discrimination, violence, and social exclusion.

The Executive Director of the Paradise Mission for Widows and Teenage Girls, Ambassador Dr. Jane Egbo, has restated the organization’s unwavering commitment to supporting widows and vulnerable teenage girls.

Amb. Dr. Jane Egbo emphasized the mission’s dedication to working closely with widows to achieve this year’s International Widows’ Day theme, which focuses on justice, dignity, and economic empowerment.

The Paradise Mission, under Dr. Egbo’s leadership, continues to provide essential support through skills training, food aid, advocacy, and empowerment programs designed to restore hope and promote self-reliance among widows and teenage girls.

Dr. Egbo’s call reinforces the need for sustained collaboration and action to ensure widows are not left behind but are given the tools and opportunities to rebuild their lives with dignity.

*Today, May 28,2026 we join the world in celebrating MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY.*

At Paradise Mission for Widows and Teenage Girls, menstrual health and hygiene have remained a core focal point of our work because no girl or woman should be held back by a natural biological process. We believe every girl deserves to manage her menstruation with dignity, confidence, and access to accurate information and proper products.

For years, our Executive Director, *Amb. Jane Egbo*, has passionately championed this cause — dedicating resources, time, and energy to educate widows and teenage girls, break the stigma surrounding menstruation, and provide essential menstrual hygiene materials. Through workshops, awareness campaigns, school outreaches, and direct support, we have continued to empower our beneficiaries with knowledge that transforms shame into pride and ignorance into informed self-care.

Menstruation is not a curse. It is a vital sign of health and a natural part of womanhood. Yet millions of girls and women, especially in underserved communities, still face barriers such as lack of access to pads, poor water and sanitation facilities, cultural taboos, and inadequate education. These challenges lead to school absenteeism, health complications, and lowered self-esteem.

As we mark this important day, we recommit ourselves to:
- Providing free and quality menstrual products to more girls and widows
- Deepening menstrual health education across communities
- Training peer educators who will carry this message forward
- Advocating for policies that prioritize menstrual equity

To every girl and woman under our care, and to every young lady reading this:
*You are not defined by your period — you are strengthened by it.* Manage it with knowledge, handle it with dignity, and never let it limit your dreams.

We Condemn in the Strongest Terms the Continued Abduction of School Children and Teenage Girls in Nigeria

Once again, our nation has been plunged into grief and outrage. The recent abduction of school children, among them precious teenage girls with dreams and futures ahead of them, is not just an attack on individual families—it is an assault on the soul of Nigeria, on the right of every girl to education, safety, and dignity.

As an organisation dedicated to the protection, empowerment, and rehabilitation of widows and teenage girls, Paradise Mission for Widows and Teenage Girls stands in unwavering solidarity with the affected families, the traumatised communities, and every Nigerian who is tired of living in fear.

These repeated abductions are not random crimes; they are calculated acts of terror designed to:
*Deny girls access to education
*Trafficking and forced marriage
*Instill despair and silence in our communities

We say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

We demand the following from the Federal Government, state governments, security agencies, and the international community:
1. Immediate and decisive military and intelligence operations to rescue every single abducted child unharmed.
2. The establishment of a dedicated, well-funded National Task Force on School Abductions with clear timelines and public accountability.
3. Safe school initiatives—including perimeter fencing, armed protection where necessary, and early-warning community systems—implemented without further delay in every vulnerable school.
4. Prosecution of perpetrators and their sponsors; no more slaps on the wrist, no more amnesty disguised as negotiation.
5. Long-term investment in education and protection of the girl-child so that fear never again drives children away from classrooms.

To parents, especially widows raising daughters alone: you are not alone. We see your pain, we hear your cries, and we are with you.

To our teenage girls: You are brave. You are valuable. Your education is your right, and we will keep fighting until you can learn without looking over your shoulder.

Paradise Mission for Widows and Teenage Girls recommits itself to providing psychosocial support, rehabilitation, and advocacy for every rescued girl and every family shattered by these atrocities. We will not rest until the last abducted child is brought home and until no girl in Nigeria has to choose between her education and her life.

May God protect our children.
May Nigeria rise to defend them.
