When a girl can't afford period products, she skips school. When she skips school enough times, she falls behind. When she falls behind, the world loses her potential. It's a chain reaction that starts with something as basic as a pad or a tampon.

When someone doesn't have access to clean water or safe sanitation during their period, their physical health suffers — silently, and without support.

When society treats menstruation as shameful or taboo, people suffer in silence instead of seeking the care they deserve.

This isn't just a "women's issue." It's a community issue. A family issue. A humanity issue.

We love apps, smart devices, fancy products — but here’s the truth: if a girl can’t access your solution, it doesn’t matter how “high-tech” it is.

Think about it:

A $20 period tracker app? Useless if she doesn’t have a smartphone.

Designer pads or menstrual cups? Great, but not if they cost more than a week’s groceries.

Fancy AI ovulation calculators? Cool, until she lives somewhere with no Wi-Fi.

Impact > Innovation. Always.

Why should tracking your period require a smartphone?

It actually shouldn’t.

Millions of women and girls don’t have:

personal smartphones

steady internet

privacy on shared devices

Some live in rural areas.
Some share phones with family.
Some can’t afford data.
Some are young and not allowed personal devices.

When period tracking becomes app-only, a lot of people are quietly locked out.

Offline tracking isn’t old-fashioned.
It’s practical.
It’s private.
And for many women, it’s the only option.

Access to menstrual health tools should not depend on Wi-Fi or app stores.

This belief is a big part of why Iwali exists.

Period care should meet people where they are , not where technology assumes they should be.

For too long, menstruation has been wrapped in silence, shame, and exclusion - especially for girls without access to proper tools or education.

When girls understand their cycles, shame loses its power. Confidence grows. Participation follows.

Iwali exists to restore period pride by providing simple, affordable menstrual health tools for girls and women — especially those in secondary schools and low-income communities.
We believe every girl deserves access to cycle tracking and menstrual education, even without smartphones, apps, or expensive products.
Our work focuses on dignity, accessibility, sustainability, and honest conversations about periods — particularly in the African context.
