From 8 to 12 September 2025, something beautiful began.

At Shine Ahead Education Trust Initiative - SAETI we believe that learning becomes truly powerful when it carries the touch of healing. Children who have faced violence and trauma deserve more than academics; they deserve restoration.

This is why I chose to research the effects of Play Therapy on the social interaction of preschoolers for my Master’s dissertation. The results were nothing short of heartwarming. Children who experienced play-based interventions blossomed socially compared to those who did not. Play truly speaks the language of healing where words sometimes fall short.

Our one-week in-person training was led by the highly esteemed Mrs. Lami Gidado, the pioneer of Play Therapy in Nigeria, whose dedication has paved the way for this intervention to reach children across the country. Alongside her was Mr. Philip Dimka, a Clinical Psychologist and Certified Child-Centered Play Therapist, whose insight into child development and human behavior deepened our understanding and passion for this work.

As we move forward, my goal is to gain even more practical experience in Play Therapy so that at Shine Ahead Education Trust Initiative we can continue to offer children affected by crisis not just education but healing, hope, and a chance to thrive again.

After fleeing violence in Sudan, Sarah now leads a school where the students are refugees like her. With 18 years of teaching experience, she works tirelessly to ensure displaced children continue their education despite challenging circumstances.
