FIDA Nigeria with support from Ford Foundation held it's 2nd Multistakeholders Dialogue engagement on State Law Reforms for the protection of Women, and prevention of Gender Based Violence in Jos Plateau State on the 24th day of March 2026.

The dialogue brought together stakeholders from Government MDAs like the Ministry of Justice, Judiciary,Law Reform Committee, Office of the Public Defender, Ministry of Women Affairs, Justice Sector Reform Team (JSRT) relevant CSOs and Law Enforcement Agencies.Noteworthy of mention among the activities embarked upon was a keen examination of gender sensitive Legislation, bringing out gaps and developing a blueprint towards addressing the gaps in the said laws and timeline for implementation.

The program also availed participants and stakeholders the opportunity to examine International, Regional and National legal framework for the protection of Women and the girl child in Plateau State.

REPORT ON THE PLATEAU STATE CHILD RIGHTS IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE (PLASCRIC) MEETING
Held on 30th April, 2026

1. Opening Session
The meeting commenced with an opening prayer, followed by a welcome address by the Chairperson. Members were then introduced.

2. Review and Adoption
The agenda was reviewed and adopted. Minutes of the last meeting were also reviewed and adopted.

3. ROLAC Update
ROLAC presented updates on the implementation of action plans. One major challenge highlighted was the failure of members to submit their reports.

When asked if the reporting form was difficult to complete, some members requested further guidance. The ROLAC spokesperson explained the process for filling out the form and encouraged all members to submit their reports promptly.

4. Child Protection Case Management and Critical Discussion Areas
• Standard Procedures for R**e and Sexual Abuse Cases: Members raised concerns that the Police have not been diligent in handling r**e cases.
• Almajiri Children Situation: The Market Association reported ongoing collaboration with Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) to remove children from the streets.
• Regulation and Monitoring of Child Care Facilities: The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development (MWASD) gave a report on:
○ Registration of day care centers
○ Monitoring of foster homes
○ Oversight of worship centers housing children

MWASD stated that the state has 31 registered orphanage homes. Members advised the Ministry to intensify efforts to identify illegal homes and maintain accurate data on children in each home.

5. Formation of Sub-Committee on Police Engagement
Due to several complaints from different ministries and organizations about police frustration of cases and lack of diligence, a sub-committee was formed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs.

Sub-Committee Members:
1. Ministry of Information (MOI)
2. National Association of Social Workers (NASOW)
3. Ministry of Health
4. Market Association
5. Ministry of Education
6. Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission (PLASGEOC)
7. Nigerian Association of Social Workers
8. International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA)
Total: 11 organizations

Leadership: The sub-committee will be headed by the Chairperson, Ministry of Information, while FIDA Plateau was appointed as Secretary.

Mandate: To conduct an advocacy visit to the Commissioner of Police (CP) to discuss issues raised during the meeting. The sub-committee will also visit the Chief Judge of the State to express appreciation for his support so far.

Proposed Date: The visit is tentatively scheduled for 14th May, 2026. A formal letter will be sent to confirm a convenient date.

6. Closing
The meeting ended with closing remarks by the Chairperson.

On the 23rd of February 2026,Young Aspirers Helpmate Int'l Foundation (YAHI), ably led by its Executive Director,Amb.Clemency Zere Ishaya, Paid an Advocacy visit to FIDA Plateau State Branch.

YAHI is an organisation committed to championing strategic intervention to curb"the nursery of addiction" crises in indigenous communities.

The purpose of the visit was to seek partnership with FIDA Plateau to develop a water tight legal framework for child protection in Jos South as a pilot project.

The Chairperson of the branch expressed great excitement and availability of FIDA Plateau to collaborate with YAHI Foundation in achieving this noble and reformative course which aligns with the core mandate of FIDA.

FIDA Plateau at Women’s ADR Workshop – IWD 2026

On March 17, 2026, FIDA Plateau was proudly represented by it's members—Bunkat Jurbe, Winnifred Dabeor, and Mariya Sh*ttu—at the Women’s ADR Awareness Workshop and Mediation Clinics hosted by the Plateau State Multi-Door Courthouse (PMDC) with support from SEDIN/GIZ.

The event, held to commemorate International Women’s Day 2026, brought together women, legal professionals, and community leaders to promote peaceful dispute resolution through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms such as mediation, negotiation, conciliation, and arbitration.

Participants engaged in interactive sessions and practical mediation clinics, gaining valuable insights into faster, cost-effective, and relationship-preserving approaches to justice.
Aligned with the global theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” the initiative highlighted the importance of accessible, gender-inclusive justice systems.

On the 23rd February 2026,SCOJA Fellows paid a courtesy/Advocacy visit the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria,Plateau State Chapter and were received by the Chairperson, Naankus N. Fyaktu, Esq and FIDA Plateau team.

SCOJA Fellows are committed to advancing the wellbeing, protection, and empowerment of communities through collaboration, advocacy, and action.

The engagement was both inspiring and insightful as the Chairperson of FIDA Plateau intimated SCOJA fellows about the remarkable work that FIDA is doing in promoting access to justice, protecting the rights of vulnerable women and children, and strengthening legal support for the vulnerable.

The visit was aimed at seeking collaboration & Strengthening Partnerships for Justice and Community Well-Being,promoting justice, safeguarding children, and strengthening community development across Plateau State,geared
towards building safer communities which requires collective effort across civil society, legal institutions, and community leaders.
