A Historic Moment for Women in Leadership

Today, we celebrate a defining moment in Nigeria's legal history as Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, hands over leadership to Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, the first woman ever elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association.

This achievement is more than a personal milestone, it is a powerful reminder that barriers can be broken, ceilings can be shattered, and leadership is strengthened when women have equal opportunities to lead.

At Gender Initiative for Change and Social Transformation (GICSOT), we celebrate this remarkable achievement and the message it sends to every girl and woman: your ambition is valid, your voice matters, and your leadership belongs wherever decisions are made.

We congratulate Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya on this historic accomplishment and wish her wisdom, courage and success as she leads the Nigerian Bar Association into a new chapter.

We are delighted to announce that the Gender Initiative for Change and Social Transformation (GICSOT) is now a proud member of the African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (AU ECOSOCC).

This milestone marks an important step in strengthening our engagement with continental policy dialogue, citizen participation, and collaborative action to advance sustainable development across Africa.

As an AU ECOSOCC member organization, GICSOT remains committed to amplifying the voices of women, youth, and vulnerable communities while promoting gender equality, peacebuilding, climate resilience, economic empowerment, and inclusive governance.

We look forward to building strategic partnerships, contributing to evidence-based policy processes, and working with fellow civil society organizations across the continent to create lasting impact.
