OFFICIAL UPDATE ON APPEAL HEARINGS, RE-VERIFICATION AND WAIVER CONSIDERATION
Following the conclusion of the appeal hearings conducted by the Appeal Sub-Committee of the 2026 Independent Convention Planning Committee (I-CPC), the Central Committee hereby issues an official update regarding the outcome of the appeal process, re-verification exercise, and consideration of waiver requests.
Recall that on 3rd May, 2026, the Independent Convention Planning Committee (I-CPC) released the outcome of the nationwide screening and verification exercise conducted in line with the provisions of Article 15, Sub-section 2 (i, ii & vii) of the NANS Constitution. In the course of that exercise, some aspirants were declared qualified, some placed on pending status due to petitions and complaints against them, while others were disqualified based on issues relating to eligibility and documentation.
Subsequently, some of the affected aspirants approached the Appeal Sub-Committee for fair hearing and submitted additional clarifications, documents, and verifiable evidence in support of their appeals.
The Appeal Sub-Committee thoroughly reviewed all petitions, objections, supporting documents, and submissions presented by the aspirants. Following the re-verification process and careful examination of the materials presented, some aspirants who were previously placed on pending status and some who were earlier disqualified have now been cleared and confirmed qualified to contest after satisfying the Committee on all raised issues.
Furthermore, the Independent Convention Planning Committee (I-CPC) also considered the numerous calls, appeals, and interventions from various students’ structures, stakeholders within the students’ community, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), including the current National President, as well as respected members of the general public, regarding requests for waiver for aspirants contesting for the offices of NANS President and NANS Senate President.
After extensive consultations and deliberations, and in the interest of inclusiveness, unity, fairness, and the stability of the Association, the Independent Convention Planning Committee (I-CPC) resolved to grant waiver to aspirants contesting for the positions of:
- NANS President
- NANS Senate President
Accordingly, affected aspirants who were previously affected by constitutional provisions relating to eligibility have now been considered under the approved waiver arrangement and their status updated accordingly.
