This March, fistula survivors gathered at the Evangel VVF Centre in Jos for a transformative reunion. Together, they embraced their journeys of recovery with joy.

With professional counseling and skills training in bead and bag making, these incredible women are not just healing—they're building futures. The men in their lives also joined us for a dedicated forum, learning how to support their loved ones on this journey.

The celebration concluded with a touching “Freedom Ceremony" where each woman received a new dress and a heartfelt send-off, filled with hope. Join us in honoring their strength and the promise of a brighter future! 💪💖

It is primarily caused by prolonged obstructed labor, which can occur in situations where access to medical care is limited. Women suffering from obstetric fistula typically endure severe physical and social consequences, including incontinence and social stigma. The condition is often preventable through proper prenatal care, skilled birth attendance, and access to emergency obstetric services.

Stigma, Lack of Awareness Fuel Burden of Fistula in Nigeria – Experts

Medical experts have identified stigma, lack of awareness, and limited access to maternal healthcare as major factors sustaining the burden of vesico vaginal fistula (VVF) in Nigeria, despite ongoing efforts to reduce the condition.

Speaking during a media engagement at the Evangel Vesico Vaginal Fistula Centre, Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos, the Project Director of the centre, Professor Sunday Langman, described stigma as a “serious and multi-layered challenge” affecting patients, families, healthcare workers, and communities.
