Today, we celebrate World Read Aloud Day
Today is World Read Aloud Day, and here at the SELI Community Children’s Library, it means something very simple and very powerful.
It means voices.
It means stories shared out loud.
It means children gathered around a book, listening, imagining, asking questions, laughing, and wondering.
Many children may not yet have shelves full of books at home.
But they have ears. And curiosity. And imagination. And they have a deep hunger for stories.
We celebrate this day because reading aloud levels the field.
It gives every child access to language and ideas, even before they can read independently.
It builds vocabulary and comprehension, and a love for learning that no worksheet can replace.
In this library, reading aloud is part of what we do.
It is how children fall in love with books.
It is how learning becomes joyful and social.
It is how stories become bridges between children and possibilities.
On this World Read Aloud Day, we celebrate every caregiver, volunteer, teacher, and child who believes that a shared story can change a life.
At the SELI Community Children’s Library, we celebrate.
Because when children hear stories, they begin to see themselves in them.
And when they see themselves, they begin to believe.
