At Janna Health Foundation, our daily mission is simple yet urgent: to ensure no child is left behind in the global fight against Tuberculosis (TB) and other lung diseases.

Through the TB REACH Wave 11 project, we are actively reaching vulnerable children, those who often fall through the cracks of the health system. We don't just screen for TB; we integrate care, to accommodate malnutrition, leprosy, and pneumonia; these are common among children in IDP camps and host communities in North-East Nigeria.

Last week, Janna Health Foundation successfully targeted hard-to-reach communities of Kurungu, Gwaguram, Bodre, and Kula in Shelleng Local Government of Adamawa State with integrated screening for these disease condition.
Hundreds of children ≤14 were screened, those with presumptive TB, showing signs of Malnutrition, or pneumonia were detected and managed according to the National Guideline.

Building on our track record of targeting communities in remote, hard-to-reach areas of North East Nigeria, our dedicated team remain resolute than ever to find the missing millions and contribute to the global goal of Ending TB.

Janna Health Foundation was honored to join the Adamawa State Ministry of Health and other leading development partners in commemorating World AIDS Day 2025.

This year’s theme, “Overcoming Disruptions: Sustaining HIV Response in Nigeria,” underscores the urgent need for consistent, community-driven action in safeguarding public health—especially in hard-to-reach areas.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Adamawa State First Lady's Office , the Deputy Governor, heads of various CSOs and NGOs, and our Founder, Dr. John Stephen, who represented Janna Health Foundation.

We appreciate the State Government for fostering a unified front in the fight against HIV and for recognizing the contributions of organizations working tirelessly to strengthen healthcare systems across the state.

Together, we move forward—building resilient communities and sustaining progress.

Janna Health Foundation has continued its long-standing partnership with DIMAGI through the ongoing Dimagi Connect Project in Gombe State. Building on years of collaboration, this phase strengthens our shared commitment to expanding digital tools and structured community health delivery to families in hard-to-reach communities.

This week, our team advanced field activities across Jagali South and Lubo/Difa/Kinafa wards in Yamaltu-Deba LGA. Through this new collaboration, JHF is leading household visits, supporting frontline workers, and using the CommCare Connect system to ensure accurate data collection, verification, and service delivery.

A total of 152 household visits were completed, and the team continued real-time data checks while strengthening frontline mentorship. Essential child-health commodities—Vitamin A, ORS/Zinc, and malnutrition screening tools—were also coordinated and delivered as part of the campaign.

The impact is already visible. Families are gaining more trust in the health system, mothers are receiving clearer information on nutrition and immunization, and frontline workers are now empowered with stronger digital support and supervision.

This new JHF–Dimagi collaboration is setting a higher standard for community health delivery, and together, we are working to build healthier and better-informed communities across Gombe State.

As part of the mission in Yola, the team visited , a privately-owned diagnostic center that partners with the NTP at the State and National levels in TB diagnostics and Quality Improvement. The visit provided an opportunity to see how private laboratories are contributing to Nigeria’s TB response by integrating advanced diagnostic tools such as Plus Life, TB Lamp, and GeneXpert into their testing systems.

At Optimum Laboratory, the team reviewed ongoing operational research aimed at improving TB diagnosis—particularly in children aged 0–14—through the collection and testing of tongue swabs and stool samples. These efforts are part of broader studies assessing diagnostic accuracy, efficiency, and feasibility across multiple facilities.

Progress shared during the visit included over 1,058 diagnostic tests completed under the ongoing evaluation. The team also discussed how private sector collaboration is enhancing turnaround time, data quality, and overall service delivery in TB diagnosis.

While challenges persist—especially in maintaining consistent community screening during seasonal periods—Janna Health Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to strengthen health systems and ensure that quality healthcare and TB diagnostics are accessible to all.

On Day 2 of their mission in Yola, the TB Partnership team visited Yelwa Primary Health Care Centre. The visit provided an opportunity to engage with frontline health workers who play a vital role in early TB detection, treatment, and follow-up at the community level.

Discussions focused on strengthening diagnostic capacity at primary health facilities and ensuring that innovative tools such as TB Lamp, and GeneXpert are more accessible to communities. With children aged 0–14 already being screened through tongue swabs and stool samples, the PHC is an important hub for reaching vulnerable groups.

Despite challenges in community screening due to seasonal factors, Janna Health Foundation remains committed to ensuring equitable access to TB services and driving the vision of Health for All.
