On October 13, 2023, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in Jalingo, Taraba State, organized a Climate Change Road March Awareness Campaign to commemorate World Environment Day. Led by the State Commissioner of t Haj. Aishat Barde who led the Road March in Collaboration with the Initiative for Climate and Renewable Energy Advocacy (ICCREA), TARABA ACReSAL and the Rotary Club of Jalingo, we, as a community development group dedicated to fostering a healthy environment, actively participated in this initiative.
The rally aimed to achieve the following objectives:
1. Raise Public Awareness: The primary goal was to educate and inform the public about the critical issues related to climate change, promoting a deeper understanding of the environmental challenges we confront.
2. Promote Sustainable Practices: Advocacy for eco-friendly behaviors and sustainable practices was a key focus, encouraging individuals to adopt habits that contribute to reducing carbon footprints and minimizing overall environmental impact.
3. Political Engagement:Serving as a platform for citizens to voice their concerns, the rally aimed to urge policymakers to take meaningful actions and implement policies addressing climate change on a broader scale.
4. Community Building:The event provided an opportunity for like-minded individuals and organizations to come together, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility for the well-being of the planet.
5. Inspire Collective Action:Mobilizing a large number of people was intended to send a powerful message encouraging collective action. This, in turn, could lead to increased participation in environmental initiatives and movements.
