HOFUGE conducted an exit FGD meeting with the community members in Jauro Ibrahim, Ganglari ward Bali LGA Taraba State. the meeting aimed at providing feedback on the issues identified during the entry FGD through community led monitoring team. feedback back was provided on the issues resolved and the way forward towards resolving the pending issues. The community members resolved to continue to advocate to the various stakeholders to find solutions to the remaining issues. The global fund ATM project aims at stimulating the community members through ward development committee to take ownership of the project and begin to advocate for the services gaps in the health facility within their reached.

FAQ about HIV/AIDS

1. What is HIV/AIDS?
Human Immunodeficiency Virus, or HIV, is the virus that causes AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.) This virus attacks the body’s immune system and makes it difficult to fight off diseases, bacteria, virus and infections.

2. Do all people with HIV have AIDS?
No. Being diagnosed with HIV does NOT mean a person will also be diagnosed with AIDS. Healthcare professionals diagnose AIDS only when people with HIV disease begin to get severe opportunistic infections (OI), or their T-cell counts fall below a certain level.

3. Can HIV be transmitted through an insect bite?
No, Insects can NOT transmit HIV. Research has shown that HIV does not replicate or survive well in insects. In addition, blood-eating insects digest their food and do not inject blood from the last person they bite into the next person.

4. Can I get AIDS from sharing a cup or shaking hands with someone who has HIV or AIDS?
HIV is found only in body fluids, so you cannot get HIV by shaking someone’s hand or giving them a hug (or by using the same toilet or towel).

Did you know the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a new recommendation supporting the use of spatial emanators, introducing a new class of intervention for malaria vector control?

Also known as spatial repellents, these devices emit active ingredients into the air to kill mosquitoes, keep them out of treated spaces, and prevent them from finding and biting people at risk of malaria.

WHO has also prequalified the first two products in this category : Mosquito Shield and Guardian manufactured by SC Johnson & Son, Inc.

HOFUGE created awareness on the prevention and treatment of malaria parasite with the community members during the FGD meeting. Participants were more enlightened on how they can prevent malaria within their homes so that the money they can use to treat malaria parasite can be saved and channel to somewhere else.
