JOCAF @ 10 YEARS – A DECADE OF IMPACT AND HOPE
Celebrating Ten Years of Service, Compassion, and Community Transformation
ABOUT JOCAF (Jahun Orphans Care Foundation)
The Jahun Orphans Care Foundation (JOCAF) was established ten years ago with a clear and heartfelt purpose—to support orphans, vulnerable children, and disadvantaged families across Jahun and surrounding communities.
Over the years, JOCAF has grown from a small community initiative into a recognized grassroots organization providing essential services in education, health care, nutrition, empowerment, and social support.
With strong community trust, consistent dedication, and a passion for humanitarian service, JOCAF continues to stand as a pillar of hope for hundreds of children who depend on its support for a better future.
MISSION OF JOCAF
To empower orphans and vulnerable children through education, health care, nutrition, and social support, ensuring they have the opportunities, stability, and care needed to grow into responsible, independent, and productive citizens.

2. Health Care Interventions
Regular medical check-ups, malaria treatment, hygiene campaigns in communities;and awareness and campaigns against child and women trafficking.

7. Annual Orphans Day Celebration

8. Building and renovation of some orphans houses. In areas of jahun ward, and Harbo ward
9. Key Achievement: Documentation and Response to Child Mortality among OVCs in Jahun LGAAs part of its commitment to evidence-based programming and child protection, Jahun Orphans Care Foundation (JOCAF) successfully documented critical child health challenges affecting orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) in Jahun Local Government Area. Through collaboration with Jahun General Hospital and community structures, JOCAF identified that 310 child deaths were recorded as a result of malaria and malnutrition, accounting for approximately 42% of child mortality within the LGA.
This achievement reflects JOCAF’s capacity to:
- Identify and document priority child survival challenges
- Use health data to guide program design and advocacy
- Elevate community awareness on preventable child deaths
- Integrate health and nutrition into OVC protection programming
The findings informed JOCAF’s strategic shift toward malaria prevention, nutrition support, and early referral interventions, strengthening its role as a grassroots leader in child survival and OVC welfare in Jahun LGA.
NEXT STEPS OF ACTION (The Future of JOCAF)
As JOCAF enters its next decade, the foundation is committed to scaling its impact through:
✔ Expanding Beneficiary Reach
Increasing the number of supported orphans from 55 to 200+ in the next 3 years.
✔ Launching the JOCAF Skill Acquisition Centre
A center dedicated to tailoring, ICT, crafts, and small business training.
✔ Strengthening Partnerships
Building stronger relationships with NGOs, CSOs,CBOs,government MDAs, international donors, and development partners.
✔ Introducing Health & Nutrition Projects
Including malnutrition prevention campaigns, maternal health outreach, and hygiene programs.
✔ Establishing a JOCAF Scholarship Fund
To support outstanding orphans pursuing higher education.
✔ Improving Monitoring & Evaluation Systems
Adopting digital tools for better reporting, transparency, and accountability.
CHALLENGES FACED BY JOCAF
Despite great achievements, JOCAF continues to face several challenges:
1. Limited Funding
The major obstacle to expanding support and sustaining long-term projects.
2. Increasing Number of Orphans
Demand for support keeps rising beyond available resources.
3. Inadequate Logistics
Transportation, Devices, monitoring costs, and field operations require additional investment.
4. Health Emergencies
Frequent illness cases among children increase financial pressure on the foundation.
5. Low Community Awareness
Some guardians still lack education on child hygiene, nutrition, and school importance.
6. Limited Staff/Volunteers
7. Challenges Faced by Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) in Jahun LGA
Despite ongoing efforts, orphans and vulnerable children in Jahun Local Government Area continue to face severe health and social challenges that threaten their survival and development.
Key challenges include:
- High Burden of Malaria:
OVCs are disproportionately affected due to poor housing conditions, limited access to insecticide-treated nets, and delayed treatment.
- Widespread Malnutrition:
Chronic food insecurity, poverty, and inadequate caregiver knowledge contribute to acute and chronic malnutrition among OVCs.
- Limited Access to Quality Healthcare:
Many caregivers lack financial capacity to seek timely medical attention, leading to late presentation of preventable illnesses.
- Weak Early Detection Systems:
Inadequate community screening and referral mechanisms result in undiagnosed malaria and malnutrition cases among children under five.
- Increased Mortality Risk:
The combined effects of malaria and malnutrition significantly increase vulnerability, as reflected by the 42% child mortality rate linked to these conditions.
These challenges highlight the urgent need for sustained, multi-sectoral interventions focused on prevention, nutrition, healthcare access, and protection of OVCs to reduce avoidable child deaths in Jahun LGA.
More hands are needed to manage the growth and activities of the foundation.
CONCLUSION
As we celebrate JOCAF @ 10 Years, we stand proud of our accomplishments and grateful to everyone who has supported this journey—volunteers, donors, caregivers, and the community.
This decade marks only the beginning. With continued commitment and collaboration, JOCAF will keep transforming lives, restoring hope, and building a brighter future for orphaned and vulnerable children.
JOCAF is not just an organization—It is a family, a refuge, and a source of hope. The next decade will be even greater.
