Entrepreneurship Training for Rural Women and Young Men
As you may well know, SpringAid Nigeria started a new project in entrepreneurship training and business support for 1200 women and youth. This project being implemented with funding from Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), took off the 1st of December 2025 and will run until 2028. Three Local Governments in Imo State namely Ahiazu Mbaise, Ideato South and Obowo are the three LGAs where implementation is taking place.
As the world becomes increasingly competitive and fast-paced, entrepreneurship has become an essential skill for young people to succeed in their careers. However, women and many young people lack the resources and support they need to start and grow their own businesses.
Rural women and young men face numerous challenges in accessing economic opportunities, including limited education and training, financial literacy, lack of access to finance, and gender-based discrimination limit many women. Some of them who are already run their own enterprises have difficulty scaling them.
To address these challenges, this project is employing entrepreneurship training program for rural women and young men, aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to start and run successful businesses or to enhance the capacity of those who are already running their own businesses.
Through a combination of training, mentorship, and access to resources, the program will empower women and young people to become successful entrepreneurs and contribute to the growth of their communities. It will provide young people with the skills, knowledge, and resources they need to start and grow their own businesses.
The proposed training program is designed specifically for rural women and young men, taking into account their unique needs and challenges. It will cover a range of topics, including creating business ideas, planning and management, marketing and sales, financial management, and product development.
The program will also provide mentorship and networking and credit advancement opportunities to 100 top participants, enabling participants to learn from successful entrepreneurs and connect with other women in their communities.
The ultimate goal of the training program is to empower rural women with the skills and knowledge needed to start and grow their own businesses, leading to increased economic opportunities for themselves and their families. By providing entrepreneurship training, we hope to contribute to poverty reduction, gender equality, and sustainable economic development in rural communities.
The following steps are being taken to achieve the project objectives:
• Baseline Survey: A baseline survey has been conducted in the three LGAs to gather information on the current economic status of rural women in the target communities. This will provide a benchmark against which to measure the impact of the training program.
• Progress Tracking: Progress tracking will be conducted throughout the training program to monitor the progress of participants. This will include tracking attendance, participation, and engagement in the training sessions.
• Post-Training Assessment: A post-training assessment will be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the training program in achieving its objectives. This will include assessing the knowledge and skills gained by participants, as well as their ability to apply these skills in their business ventures.
• Identify and Select Participants: The first step is to identify and select participants for the program. This will involve promoting the program through various channels, such as social media, community organizations, and local schools. Applications will be reviewed, and participants will be selected based on their business ideas, their motivation, and their commitment to the program.
• Provide Training and Resources: Once the participants are selected, they will be provided with training and resources to help them develop their business ideas. This will include workshops on business ideas, planning, marketing, financial literacy, and other essential business skills. Participants will also have access to resources such as office space, equipment, and mentorship.
• Develop Business Plans: Participants will work with mentors and program staff to develop business plans for their ideas. These plans will outline the products or services the business will offer, the target market, the financial projections, and the marketing and sales strategies.
• Launch and Run Businesses: Participants will launch and run their businesses with guidance and support from program staff and mentors. They will also have access to resources such as networking events, business coaching, and credit opportunities for the top 100 participants.
• Business Performance Monitoring: Business performance monitoring will be conducted to track the progress of participants in their business ventures after completing the training program. This will include assessing the profitability, growth, and sustainability of their businesses.
• Impact Assessment: An impact assessment will be conducted to measure the overall impact of the training program on the economic status of rural women in the target communities. This will include assessing the overall economic empowerment of women, as well as the broader social and economic impact of the program.
The success of the program will depend on careful planning.
implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and learning. By regularly assessing the progress and impact of the program, we can identify areas for improvement and make necessary adjustments to ensure that the program meets the needs of rural women and contributes to sustainable economic development in rural communities.
By working together, we can empower women and young men entrepreneurs, promote gender equality, and contribute to sustainable economic development in rural communities.
We believe that this program has the potential to make a significant impact on the lives of young people and the economic growth of the communities they serve.
Overall, we believe that this entrepreneurship training program has the potential to make a significant impact on the lives of rural women and young men, and we look forward to your support in making it a reality.
