We arrived at Eleve Academy not with clipboards and checklists—but with questions.
What do your students already know about their rights? Who do they tell when something feels wrong? What would a truly safe school look like to them?

These were not just our questions. They became ours, together.
In a warm, honest conversation with the school leadership, we shared the heart of the Equity Frontline Project: student-led GBV prevention clubs that don’t just teach—they listen. Clubs where young people are not just beneficiaries, but leaders. Where safety is not a policy pinned to a board, but a practice lived in hallways, classrooms, and peer conversations.
The response?

"This is not just needed. It is overdue."
By the end of our visit, Eleve Academy didn’t just understand the project. They owned it. Together, we mapped out how a club might look in their unique context—who the teacher advisors could be, how reporting could feel safe, how awareness could become action.
Goal: Not to convince. But to co-create.
Outcome: A partnership rooted not in paperwork, but in shared belief.

Advocacy Visit
Location: Cedar Hills Children School, Ile-Ife

We walked into Cedar Hills, unsure of what to expect. We left carrying something we didn’t anticipate: hope.
During our advocacy visit, we sat with the school’s administrators and shared a sobering reality:
1. Reported GBV Cases: In the first five months of 2024, 89 cases of gender-based violence (GBV) were officially reported in Osun State.
2. In**st and Sexual Violence: Advocacy groups like the Centre for Women's Health and Information (CEWHIN) flagged an alarming rate of in**st in the state as of October 2025.
3. Child Sexual Abuse (CSA): A 2025 study in Ede, Osun State, reported a CSA incidence rate of 10.6% for boys and 24.8% for girls.
4. Domestic Exposure: A January 2026 study of in-school adolescents in Ile-Ife found that 84.7% of children had been exposed to domestic violence in some form (witnessing or direct victimization), with verbal abuse (78.8%) being the most prevalent.

Vulnerability and Risks
1. Protection Concerns: An assessment of public school children in Osun revealed that 12% were currently experiencing abuse or exploitation (physical, emotional, sexual, or neglect), while another 28.1% were considered "at risk" of abuse.
2. Parental Perception: Nearly half (49.7%) of parents in a state-wide survey did not view certain abusive acts as "abuse," instead regarding them as necessary discipline or training measures.

That is exactly why the Equity Frontline Project exists. Not to replace what schools are already doing, but to strengthen their hands. To give teachers trusted pathways. To give students peer leaders they can talk to. To replace silence with systems.
By the end of our conversation, Cedar Hills wasn’t just open to the idea. They were ready to begin.

Goal: To initiate constructive engagement not as outsiders, but as partners.
Impact: One more school where students will no longer have to suffer in silence.

Today, on World Cancer Day, SIPGAD stands with individuals, families, and communities worldwide under the 2025–2027 theme: “United by Unique.” We recognize that every cancer journey is personal, yet our shared humanity connects us all.

In Nigeria and beyond, cancer impacts lives unevenly deepened by gaps in mental health support, stigma, and systemic barriers. While we are in the early stages of developing community-centered programs to address these disparities, our commitment is clear: to advance actionable equity in cancer care through psychosocial support, dignified storytelling, and inclusive advocacy.

This World Cancer Day, let’s honor each unique story and turn empathy into action. Together, we can build a future where no one faces cancer alone where every voice is heard, and every person is supported with compassion and justice.
