Over the years, we have trained 567 grassroots activists across 10 cohorts and strengthened the capacity of multiple local organizations to lead ethical, effective, and community-centered advocacy against FGM and SGBV. Our Executive director .awodoyin_bello will always say passionately, "I want to give activists what I did not have access to when I started campaigning".

From ethics of community entry to project management, media engagement to survivor-centered approaches, we don’t just run programs, we BUILD people. From one voice to hundreds, from one community to many.
We are grateful for every activist and grassroots organization that has trusted us at with their growth journey. Together, we are building a movement that lasts and proving that community-led change works.

Interesting and meaningful conversations as partners with Center for Gender, Obafemi Awolowo University and Osun state ministry of education on ways to incoporate men and boys into the project curriculum.

Statistics indicate that men and boys are the primary perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) globally, with research showing that over 80-95% of perpetrators in various contexts are male. While GBV impacts all genders, the overwhelming majority of perpetrators, particularly in cases of sexual violence and intimate partner violence, are men.

Dr Paul Awoniyi reiterates the need to involve boys in our advocacy saying they need help to understand that violence and manipulation are not the right ways to exact authority as men and boys. As we forge ahead in our impactful work, we will continually engage men and boys.

Strong movements are built on strong people. When local organizations and frontline activists receive hands-on training, practical mentorship, and certified capacity-building programs, they perform better and drive real change. At Initiative for Girls' Rights and Health Development , this is our focus.
Stay tuned for details on the next cohort.

Life of a frontline Activist👌 Fortunate Nifemi Odekanle prepping over 100 adolescent girls of Ife Girl's High School for the Project. It takes a lot of skill to mobilize adolescents and get them to pay full attention. You have to be gentle, soft spoken but firm, our facilitators are not only passionate but skilled as some of them are survivors. These are some of the things we've realize works since over a decade of operations.

Engaging religious leaders in our campaigns to end Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM), Child Marriage (CM), and related harmful practices remains a key strategy for us at Initiative For Girls' Right and Health Development

Religious leaders hold immense influence at the community level, and their voices can shape beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors.
This video shows when we visited Akinlalu Village in partnership with Global Media Campaign to End FGM to launch the “Girls Are Born Perfect” Campaign and introduce the End FGM Caravans, we engaged religious leaders and implored them to actively join the movement. The dialogue was insightful and reinforced the importance of faith-based leadership in driving social change.
During this visit, we also observed a high prevalence of teenage pregnancy within the Akinlalu community. In response, we are working closely with religious leaders to sensitize adolescents on sexual and reproductive health issues, including abstinence, responsible decision-making, and the appropriate use of contraceptives.
Together, we believe that informed communities, guided by trusted leaders, can protect girls, uphold their dignity, and secure a healthier future for all.

Big thanks to Wallace Global Fund for sustained support.
