THE 4 MARKS OF THE CHURCH: WHAT THEY MEAN
“The Church is not just a building… it has marks that reveal its identity.”

Many people say:
“I belong to the Church.”

But then comes a deeper question:
What makes the Church truly the Church?

The answer is simple.
The Church has four marks, four visible characteristics that identify it.

1. ONE (SCRIPTURE)
The Church is one because Christ founded only one Church. This unity is rooted in one faith, one baptism, and one Lord (cf. Letter to the Ephesians 4:4–5).

2. HOLY (SCRIPTURE)
The Church is holy because Christ is holy and He is its head. Even though its members are sinners, the Church itself is sanctified by God and filled with His grace.

3. CATHOLIC (SCRIPTURE)
“Catholic” means universal. The Church is for all people, in all places, at all times. It proclaims the fullness of the faith to the whole world.

4. APOSTOLIC (SCRIPTURE & TRADITION)
The Church is apostolic because it is founded on the apostles and continues their mission through apostolic succession, the unbroken line of bishops from the apostles to today.

IN SUMMARY… THE IDENTITY OF THE CHURCH
*One in faith
*Holy in origin
*Catholic in mission
*Apostolic in foundation

These are not just ideas…
They are the signs of the true Church.
