🟨🟦 WEEK 30 READ- https://www.researchgate.net/publication/408065204_Occupational_mental_health_among_remote_workers_in_Nigeria_the_role_of_computer_vision_syndrome_and_the_moderating_effect_of_employee_resilience

Remote work spiked during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 pandemic, since then, it has been a great option to push the global economy forward, ignoring the fact that it comes with a price. Salient points from this week's read;

1. The gig economy is a non-traditional workforce
or labour that is characterized by independent or free-agent
workers who work as freelancers and/or remote workers.

2. Occupational mental health can
be defined as workers’ realization of their abilities, resilience against normal stresses of life, capability to work productively and capability to contribute to their communities.

3. Mental health in the working population can be viewed from three aspects mental health problems, mental disorders and mental wellbeing.

4. Mental health disorders are clinical mental illnesses such as depressive disorders, anxiety disorders and schizophrenia.

5. The global remote work population is exposed to a high risk of work-related mental health challenges.

6. Mental health outcomes, e.g., anxiety and depression,are a major problem in the Nigerian workforce, owing to poororganizational resources to support employees’ mental wellbeing and a lack of awareness of occupational mental health.

In conclusion, computer vision syndrome has a detrimental effect on the mental health of Nigerian remote workers as it increases the rate of work related depression and anxiety regardless of age and gender.

🟨🟦 2026 FIRST ANNIVERSARY.

THANK YOU GOD— YOU ARE OUR STRUCTURE!!!

For three years, I have carried this beautiful dream non-stop in my heart, in my brain and on my back, I cannot appreciate enough those who accepted my vision before understanding it—a huge and rare blessing. Thank you Global Citizens for pushing our Institution through the Third Anniversary and Dr. Fajembola's Opinion through its First Anniversary.

Today we launch the work from the Research Rapporteurs Program to reinforce the vision of our institution. Health literacy deserves to be seen, heard and felt through every global citizen not just the health workforce. We cannot move progressively without you, whether you are in a farmhouse or squatting in a city, you are all important to us because health is a collective action.

We have had challenges we never shared not because we do not need your help but because when we started, we aimed at relieving global citizens not burdening you. I hoped we will never crowdfund for FIRST but we are crowdfunding currently for reasons best known to us. My appreciation is incomplete without thanking those who chose to sit on our Advisory Council, be on our Board of Directors, and Executive Team on the first request.

I must confess, at the beginning of building FIRST, I was entitled to goodwill because I always poured goodness into people, spaces and things but then I remembered, just because you do not bite a mosquito does not mean a mosquito will not bite you, the vision is from God not man—so I built regardless. When one chooses to build what has never been built before, then one is destined to see what has never been seen before positively and negatively.

We will keep pushing, we will keep learning and doing our best to contribute to the global one world agendas positively.

HAVE A HEALTHY YEAR GLOBAL CITIZENS.

🟦🟨 GUEST RESEARCHER PROFILE- MR. IFEANYI NGWOKE.

Mr. Ifeanyi Ngwoke is a public health researcher and infectious disease specialist from Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science, a Master of Science in Infection Prevention and Control, and is completing a Postgraduate Diploma in One Health at the University of Edinburgh as a Mastercard Foundation Scholar.

The paper being discussed today, "Barriers and Facilitators of Oral PrEP Uptake Against HIV Among Selected Priority Populations: A Global Perspective" is his first first-author publication, released in Current HIV/AIDS Reports in 2026. It synthesises evidence from across the globe on why certain populations struggle to access and stay on oral PrEP, and what needs to change.

He is also founding of iOHRE, the Interface for One Health Research and Engagement, an Africa-based research and policy institution focused on infectious disease and climate health evidence for African health systems.

🟦🟨 JUNE RESEARCH WEBINAR.

https://youtu.be/4TD9YqJf64Q?is=6xeyq8oR5hZQGY3f
Dr. Adewuyi Habeeb delivered a comprehensive presentation on research methodology and publication, covering seven key stages from choosing a research topic to growing a research career. Professor Moraina joined the session to reinforce the importance of conducting quality research and specializing in specific areas to avoid predatory journals. The session included a discussion about the three-question test for research feasibility, significance, and value, and participants were asked to identify the most important aspect of research.

Key takeaways;
1. Open an ORCID account if you do not have one already.
2. Set up a Google Scholar profile if you do not have one already.
3. Consider applying for APC waivers or seeking journals without APCs for future publications.
4. Be cautious of predatory journals.
5. Aim to attend at least one conference per year and join professional associations to build your research network.
6. Advocate for Global South voices by citing African scholars and targeting Global South journals.

LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR NEXT RESEARCH WEBINAR.
