AS WE COUNT DOWN TO WORLD THYROID DAY.

10 FACTS ABOUT THE THYROID

1️⃣ The thyroid is a small butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of the neck.🦋 🦋 🦋

2️⃣ Though small, the thyroid controls many vital body functions including metabolism, heartbeat, energy levels, and body temperature.

3️⃣ Thyroid disorders affect millions of people worldwide, yet many remain undiagnosed.

4️⃣ Women are more likely than men to develop thyroid disorders.

5️⃣ Common thyroid conditions include hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, goitre, thyroid nodules, and thyroid cancer.

6️⃣ Symptoms of thyroid disorders can include weight changes, fatigue, anxiety, hair loss, depression, rapid heartbeat, and neck swelling.

7️⃣ Thyroid disorders are often mistaken for stress, menopause, or ordinary tiredness, leading to delayed diagnosis.

8️⃣ Adequate iodine intake is important for healthy thyroid function, but too much iodine can also be harmful.

9️⃣ Early diagnosis and proper treatment can help people with thyroid disorders live healthy and productive lives.

🔟 Regular health checks and increased awareness can help break the silence around thyroid disorders.

🌍💜 WORLD LUPUS DAY – MAY 10 💜🌍
Today, TASI – Thyroid Awareness and Support Initiative joins the global lupus community to raise awareness, show support, and stand in solidarity with millions of people living with lupus around the world. In solidarity with .

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own healthy tissues and organs. It can affect the skin, joints, kidneys, heart, lungs, brain, and many other parts of the body. Because its symptoms often vary from person to person, lupus is sometimes called “the invisible disease.”

Many people living with lupus battle daily pain, fatigue, uncertainty, and emotional challenges that others may not easily see. Yet behind every diagnosis is a warrior fighting with courage, resilience, and hope.
World Lupus Day is more than a date on the calendar. It is a call to: 💜 Increase awareness 💜 Encourage early diagnosis 💜 Promote access to quality healthcare 💜 Support research and advocacy 💜 Remind lupus warriors that they are not alone.

At TASI, we understand the challenges that come with chronic and autoimmune conditions. We believe that awareness saves lives, support strengthens communities, and compassion gives hope.

Today, we celebrate the strength of every lupus warrior, survivor, caregiver, advocate, and healthcare professional working tirelessly to make a difference.
Let us continue to educate, support, listen, and speak up until more people understand lupus and those living with it receive the care, empathy, and support they deserve.
Together, we can turn awareness into action and pain into purpose.

💜 One Voice. One Community. One Fight. 💜 Happy World Lupus Day!

THYROID & HEART HEALTH ❤️

Did you know your thyroid can affect your heart?

When the thyroid becomes overactive (hyperthyroidism), it speeds up your body—including your heart.

Over time, this can lead to serious complications like:
• Rapid or pounding heartbeat
• Irregular heartbeat (palpitations)
• High blood pressure
• Enlarged heart (cardiomegaly)
• Heart failure (in severe cases)

Why does this happen?
Excess thyroid hormones force the heart to work harder and faster than normal. If not treated early, the heart muscle can become strained and enlarged.

The good news:
When hyperthyroidism is properly treated, the heart can recover—especially if detected early.

What should you do?
✔ Get your thyroid levels checked if you notice persistent palpitations or fatigue
✔ Follow your doctor’s treatment plan strictly
✔ Avoid caffeine and stimulants
✔ Don’t ignore symptoms—early action saves your HEART.

Watch out for warning signs:
⚠ Shortness of breath
⚠ Swelling in the legs
⚠ Fast or irregular heartbeat
⚠ Unusual fatigue.

Your thyroid health is your heart health.
Stay aware. Stay informed. Stay healthy.

Hormonal Imbalance & Nutrition:

What We Eat Directly Shapes Our Hormones

Hormones act as the body's chemical messengers, regulating metabolism, mood, growth, and reproductive health. Even slight imbalances can lead to issues like acne, irregular periods, weight changes, fatigue, and insulin resistance.

Your hormones work as a network. Stress, blood sugar, gut health, reproductive hormones, and adrenal function all influence how your thyroid performs. We don't always notice them.

But hormones are behind so much of how the body works.
They act like messengers...
telling different parts of the body what to do and when to do it.
Energy levels.
Mood.
Sleep.
Metabolism.
All influenced by hormones.

And one of the key players is the thyroid.

What is it?
It is a small gland in the neck, but with a big role.
It helps regulate how fast or slow the body runs.
When it's balanced, things feel... normal.
But when it's off, we can feel it.

Things nobody tells you about thyroid health:

1) Your TSH can be "normal" and you can still feel like garbage. We look at Free T3, Free T4, reverse T3, and thyroid antibodies-not just one number.

2) Your hair falling out isn't "just stress." It's often your thyroid screaming for attention (and specific nutrients like selenium and zinc).

3) Weight gain around your midsection while eating clean? Classic undertreated thyroid pattern. Your metabolism is literally running slower than it should.

4) Cold hands and feet aren't cute quirks. They're circulation issues often tied to low thyroid function.

5) Brain fog isn't 'getting older. It's your neurons begging for adequate thyroid hormone to function.

Relation Between Nutrition & Hormones

Hormones are chemical messengers (like insulin, thyroid hormones, estrogen, cortisol) that control metabolism, mood, energy, weight, sleep, and reproduction.

Nutrition and hormones have a two-way relationship:

Nutrition Hormones:
The food you eat provides raw materials to produce and regulate hormones Hormones Nutrition:
Hormones control hunger, cravings, fat storage, and how your body uses nutrients

How Nutrition Affects Hormones

1. Blood Sugar & Insulin
High sugar/refined carbs spikes insulin fat storage, cravings
Balanced meals (fiber + protein + fats) stable blood sugar
Imbalance leads to: weight gain, diabetes, PCOS

2. Stress & Cortisol
Poor diet, caffeine excess, low nutrients cortisol
Nutrients like magnesium, vitamin C, omega-3 support
stress control.
Imbalance leads to: belly fat, anxiety, poor sleep

3. Hunger Hormones (Leptin & Ghrelin)
Junk food + poor sleep disrupt hunger signals
Protein + fiber improve satiety (fullness)
Imbalance leads to: overeating, cravings

4. Thyroid Hormones (Metabolism)
Need iodine, selenium, zinc, iron
Crash dieting slows metabolism
Imbalance leads to: fatigue, weight gain, hair fall

5. Estrogen & Reproductive Hormones
Fiber + healthy fats support hormone balance Processed foods, excess sugar hormonal imbalance
Imbalance leads to: PCOS, irregular periods, mood swings.

HEROES OF OUR TIME AWARD🦋🦋🥳

My 14th award—both nationally and internationally. As I always say, “the reward of good work is more work.”

Deep appreciation to The Mirror National Newspaper for recognizing me, in my little corner, as one of the “Heroes of Our Time” among other distinguished dignitaries, during their 2026 National conference.

People often see the glamour—awards, policy conferences, and travels—but the real story is the quiet, consistent, and often unseen work behind the scenes.

As a thyroid disease survivor, patient and policy advocate, and Founder of TASI, this work is deeply personal.

Advocacy is more than awareness—
It is walking with people through fear, treatment, and recovery.
Not every effort is seen, but every life touched matters.

This is service. This is compassion. This is purpose in action.

A SNEAK PEEK BEHIND THE SCENES…
LIFE OF A PATIENT ADVOCATE.

Last night was something else. Five hours in the theatre, four challenging but successful surgeries, and my first experience working straight through the night—from 11:00pm to 5:30am—back-to-back. It wasn’t planned, but when emergencies call, we answer.
Looking at myself this morning, with tired eyes but a full heart, I can’t help but wonder where the strength comes from.
One thing is clear: it’s grace!

Because truly, my mental strength often outweighs my physical capacity—and yet, I keep going until the work is done.
My deepest motivation remains the success of every surgery and the lives touched through it.

I’m grateful to God and to our incredible medical team for their dedication and excellence.

Provision of Healthcare access and treatment are not enough, moral and emotional support are therapeutic.
The good news? It all ended in praise.
“ThyroidQueen” is not just a title—it’s a responsibility.

Please Support us to save lives, more especially women..
