*IGIRI HIGH SCHOOL IJOFIN CLASS OF 2010 STORMS CELESTINA GBENU’S WEDDING IN STYLE, MARKS 15-YEAR REUNION WITH PURPOSE*
Yesterday was a spectacular and heartwarming day in the lives of the former students of Igiri High School, Ijofin—Class of 2010—as they came together in joy and unity to celebrate two major events: the wedding of their beloved classmate, Celestina Gbenu, and their 15-year class reunion.
The atmosphere at the wedding was filled with heartfelt laughter, warm embraces, and excitement, as members were thrilled to reconnect and see one another after many years apart. It was a day of nostalgia and renewed bonds, with classmates reminiscing about their shared teenage years and celebrating how far they had come.
Speaking at the event, the Class President, Comrade Gbenasu Leonard Johnson, expressed deep appreciation to all who honoured the invitation. He applauded the commitment of those who contributed to the cash gift presented to the newlyweds and described the turnout as evidence that the spirit of togetherness in the Class of 2010 remains strong.
Following the wedding, members moved to Joas Hotel & Suites, Aseko Along Idiroko-Agosasa Road, Ipokia Local Government Area, Ogun State for the reunion gathering. It was an evening of catching up, hearty discussions, and reaffirmation of commitment to the class goals. Members shared thoughts, visions, and laughter, reconnecting like no time had passed.
In a brief but impactful statement, Mr. Jemil Awode, the Financial Secretary of the Class, reminded everyone that the purpose of the alumni group must always remain a priority. He emphasized support, unity, and the need to give back to the school that nurtured them.
Mr. Adeogun Johnson, in his passionate remarks, appealed to all members to always treat one another with love and respect. “No matter who we are or the positions we occupy, once we come together as members of Class 10, we are equal,” he said. He urged everyone to show humility—even to the least among the group—and concluded by saying, “We are all doing well individually in our different paths, and mutual respect and love is what will keep us united and strong.”
President Leonard Johnson also reiterated his dedication to alumni activities and encouraged members to stay united in purpose. He emphasized the urgent need to support their Alma Mater and revealed that an anonymous donation had already been made to kick-start their proposed school intervention project. He urged members to brace up, as the class will soon embark on the official launching of the project to meet up before the next academic session begins.
Some key areas of intervention discussed include:
Provision of desks and benches for students
Cementing of classroom floors
Supplying chairs for staff
Repairs of leaking classroom roofs
Donation of uniforms to students
Scholarship support for brilliant but financially challenged students
The alumni also used the occasion to call on the government to take proactive steps in improving the educational environment at Igiri High School. A serene and conducive atmosphere is essential for meaningful teaching and learning.
In a touching close, members were reminded of the power of education. The President admonished young students to take their studies seriously, declaring education as the strongest weapon for conquering life’s challenges and achieving their dreams. “Education is the bedrock of success. It is the only weapon with which we can conquer poverty, ignorance, and inequality,” he noted passionately.
He concluded with a call for all alumni members to prepare their hearts and pockets, as cheerful giving will be needed once the class officially launches the school support initiative.
