Presidential Speech by Comr. Sanusi Emmanuel Iyanu

Tuesday 16th of April 2024

Dear Nalissites,

Today marks a significant milestone in my journey as I stand before you, deeply grateful and honored to have been elected as the President of our great department National Association of Library and Information Science Students (NALISS) prior to the election conducted few months ago. First and foremost, I give thanks to God Almighty for His grace and guidance, which has made this journey possible and relatively smooth.

I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to the esteemed lecturers who entrusted me with this remarkable opportunity: Dr. Mrs. Awodoyin, Dr. Osisanwo, Dr. Simisaye, Mrs. Adeyeoye, Mrs. Afolabi, and Mrs. Olutoki. Your support and belief in me mean the world, and I am truly grateful for your mentorship and guidance.

I extend my deepest gratitude to all the students who believed in me, supported me, and cast their votes in my favor. Your confidence in my leadership is a source of inspiration, and I am committed to serving you all to the best of my abilities.

I also want to acknowledge and appreciate my predecessor, Akinsanya Elizabeth Adewunmi, for her unwavering support during her tenure and beyond. Your guidance and encouragement have been invaluable, and I am honored to continue the legacy you have built as the NALISS President.

Despite the delayed start due to the inauguration process, I want to assure you that we have already begun working diligently to implement our vision for the department. Our team, Team Transformation, is committed to bringing about positive change, advancing the work of past regimes, and fostering innovation and evolution within NALISS.

One of our key initiatives will be Digital Empowerment, where NALISSites will participate in an innovative program focused on developing essential digital skills in finance, blogging, and technology.

We are pleased to introduce to you the Face of NALISS competition. This programme is set to bring Nalissite a spirit of engagement and involvement and equally unite us together as a body.

The last edition was held last session and the winner was *TOSSOU KIKELOMO IVERT* who won with almost 700 votes and we are looking towards having another champion and winner.

After serving the department for four sessions, fulfilling roles as the Head of department , Public Relations Officer, and President, I stand before you today to pass on the baton. It is with a sense of both closure and optimism that I acknowledge the inevitable truth: every beginning must eventually come to an end.

I extend my heartfelt wishes to the incoming administration, *Team Reformation*, as they take charge. May they govern with dedication and responsibility.

During our tenure, our regime strived not only for physical development but also for the holistic growth of individuals engaged in various campus activities, including academics, unionism, and sports. We made it our utmost priority to enhance human potential in all these areas.

I appreciate all HOCs, senators, honorables and stakeholders that stood with us always. We wouldn’t be able to achieve anything without your involvement.

Dear NALISSITES, as you embark on your academic journeys, I implore you to remember the significance of life after school. Utilize your time on campus wisely, nurturing not just academic pursuits but also personal growth. Trust in divine providence for the outcomes beyond your control.
