!
On behalf of the Management, Senate, Faculty, Staff and Learners of the University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (UAST), Ihugh, I heartily congratulate His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Executive Governor of Benue State and Visitor to UAST Ihugh, on the conferment of the prestigious Best Performing Governor of the Year in Infrastructure and Economic Development 2026 Award at the Accolade Yellow Ball and Awards.

This honour is not merely a recognition of office, but a testament to visionary leadership, courage of conviction, infrastructural rebirth, prudent governance, and the deliberate repositioning of Benue State towards productivity, dignity and sustainable development. It reflects the visible fingerprints of a government steadily restoring confidence in public leadership and rekindling hope amongst the people.

As a young and rapidly emerging institution birthed under Your Excellency’s administration, UAST Ihugh remains profoundly grateful for your uncommon commitment to educational transformation, innovation, human capital development and the building of enduring institutional legacies for future generations.

We pray that Almighty God continually multiplies His grace, wisdom, strength and divine protection upon Your Excellency, your government, the University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (UAST) Ihugh, and indeed the entire people of Benue State. May your days be long, your vision continually illuminated, and your service crowned with even greater peace, progress and historic accomplishments.

Congratulations, Your Excellency.

UAST IHUGH — Department of Earth and Climatic Sciences

Our pioneering B.Sc. Geology and Mining learners ready for their second fieldwork visit around Vandeikya Local Government Area in Benue State, Nigeria. The exercise will give them practical exposure to complement their classroom learning and deepen their understanding of geological formations and mining operations.

This is not merely fieldwork; it is initiation; an encounter with the stored wealth beneath our feet, where theory yields to terrain and knowledge is quarried through disciplined inquiry.

The field trip is guided with measured distinction by the Head of Department, Prof. Tersoo Aga, who is mentoring the cohort in reading strata, interpreting mineral signatures, and situating Benue’s georesources within the larger canvas of Afrika's science, industry, and prosperity.

At UAST Ihugh Department of Earth and Climatic Sciences, we are committed to not simply teach the earth; but we will listen to it, and, with informed purpose, we will prepare our young scholars to learn to transform it.

I have lived the gap I am trying to close at UAST Ihugh, for over 27 years of teaching, research and leadership development across Nigerian public and private universities (FUT Akure, FAU Makurdi, JOSTUM Makurdi, FUDUTSIN-MA Katsina State, and BCU Obudu); and at Queen’s University Belfast. I have seen bright students leave school unable to solve real problems around them. That experience shaped my conviction that knowledge only matters when it becomes useful in people’s lives.

What I am building with excellent colleagues at UAST Ihugh is different because it does not separate learning, research, and production. Instead of isolated faculties and departments, we are creating an interconnected network of polymathic innovation institutes rooted in local strengths but global aspirations, where scholars shall learn by solving real problems and making useful things.

Many do not attempt this because systems are rigid and reward theory, certificates and titles over skills, practise and solutions. But I and my colleagues understand these limits and how to move beyond them. We are building a polymathic model where learning supports itself and young people imagine and aspire to become innovators and creators, not just job seekers.
