When you educate a girl, you empower a generation.”
As part of our commitment to justice, inclusion, and empowerment, the Network for Justice and Inclusion Foundation (NJIF) has dedicated the entire month of October in honour of the International Day of the Girl Child to telling our stories, celebrating our impact, and reaffirming our mission.
Earlier this month, we had the privilege of reaching over 1,200 girls from seven secondary schools in two communities Origbo and Moro in Ipetumodu, Osun State, through our Girls’ Empowerment Program themed “Girls Today, Leaders Tomorrow.”
The experience was transformational.
We watched curiosity turn into confidence.
We saw hesitation become hope.
And we witnessed young girls rise to see themselves as leaders of tomorrow.
They learned how to believe in their voices, use technology positively, make informed choices, and boldly envision their futures. Each girl wrote her dream on a canvas of hope ,a declaration of who she wants to become: Doctors, engineers, lawyers, teachers, and presidents , teachers e.t.c
We laughed, danced, shared stories, and celebrated the powerful truth that when a girl is empowered, a nation is strengthened.
The Objectives of the Event: “Girls Today, Leaders Tomorrow” are
1. To empower adolescent girls with knowledge, confidence, and life skills needed to make informed decisions about their health, education, and future thereby reducing vulnerability to gender-based violence and harmful practices.
2. To promote positive self-esteem and leadership potential among young girls through interactive sessions, discussions, and affirmations that encourage them to take ownership of their destinies and envision themselves as future leaders.
3. To increase awareness on sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and personal safety enabling participants to identify myths, reject stereotypes, and advocate for their rights confidently.
4. To strengthen community support for girls’ education and empowerment by engaging teachers, parents, and community leaders as allies in advancing girls’ rights and opportunities.
5. To inspire collective action towards inclusion and justice for all children, especially girls, emphasizing NJIF’s vision of a society where every child — regardless of gender or background — has equal access to education, safety, and opportunity.
Our Reflection This October
The International Day of the Girl Child is more than a celebration it’s a commitment.
A commitment to ensuring that every girl grows up educated, confident, and free from fear or limitation.
We’ve seen the power of education.
We’ve seen how knowledge transforms vulnerability into vision.
Now, we’re dedicating October to sharing those stories so that together, we can reach more girls, touch more lives, and create more change.
Every girl deserves to dream. Every girl deserves a chance.
