Oyo State gubernatorial candidate, Oriyomi Hazmat has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with victims of the Ibadan Circular Road project and residents affected by the proposed 1,000-metre corridor.
The agreement was reached during a town hall meeting held today, Saturday, August 8, 2026, where the victims presented nine key demands aimed at addressing the concerns of affected property owners and communities across the six Local Government Areas of Oluyole, Ona Ara, Egbeda, Ido, Akinyele and Lagelu.
Among the major demands are the restoration of the original 75-metre Right of Way for the Ibadan Circular Road as acquired during the administration of former Governor Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja in 2006; reversal of the proposed 1,000-metre corridor acquisition; payment of outstanding compensation to owners of demolished and affected properties; provision of adequate entry and exit points; construction of pedestrian bridges; and protection of free movement across communities along the corridor.
The victims also demanded a structured mechanism for community representation in relevant government institutions, including the Ministries of Works and Lands and the Oyo State New Towns and Cities Development Agencies.
Another demand sought a reduction of the Right of Way in Ido Local Government from 150 metres to 60 metres to minimise the adverse impact of the road construction on existing structures and communities.
The ninth demand requested that all agreed actions should constitute the candidate's first tasks within his first 100 days in office if elected Governor of Oyo State.
However, during the engagement, Hazmat declined to endorse two of the demands—the proposed 60-metre Right of Way in Ido and the 100-day implementation timeline, describing them as not sufficiently practicable/viable. In the interest of reaching an agreement, the victims agreed to temporarily suspend the two contentious demands.
Following this understanding, the parties proceeded with the signing of the MOU, signalling a commitment to dialogue and the resolution of the concerns surrounding the Circular Road and the 1,000-metre corridor.
The signing was witnessed by Omo Oba Asanke of the Olubadan of Ibadan, alongside community representatives and other stakeholders.
The agreement marks another significant step in the ongoing engagement between gubernatorial candidates and residents affected by the Ibadan Circular Road project, with the victims seeking concrete commitments to protect their properties, livelihoods, access and fundamental interests.
