TECHNICAL WORKSHOP ON EDUCATIONAL REFORMS ON OUT-OF-SCHOOL CHILDREN IN OYO STATE.
The workshop held on Thursday 21st August 2025 at Golden Tulip Hotel Jericho Ibadan, focused on addressing the education of Out-of-School Children (OOSC) in Oyo State. It was a Pre-summit for the education advancement Summit being spearheaded by the office of the Speaker Oyo State House of Assembly Rt Hon. Debo Ogundoyin. In attendance were members and officials of Oyo State House of Assembly, key Government officials, Civil Society Organisations, Non- Governmental organisations including Child Development and Concern Foundation as well as specialists in education. They all expressed their interest and emphasized their commitment to reintegrating OOSC into the educational system in Oyo State.
There were discussions about the importance of sensitizing parents and guardians on tackling issues like poverty, gender discrimination, early marriage, and poor literacy levels that keep children out of school. Solutions proposed included policy changes, free transportation, educational reforms, as well as social interventions like school-based meals and programs for children with disabilities. A collaborative effort would be made to ensure every child has access to education.
The program was supported by Malala Fund and ably facilitated by Onelife Initiative. It is our prayer that Oyo State Government will get over the problem of OOSC very soon.

2025 CELEBRATION OF DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD

Celebration of the day of the African Child on 16th day of June of every year comes in memory of many school children killed in Soweto, South Africa in 1976 while they were protesting against the poor quality of education being offered them by the apartheid regime in South Africa.

Our organization, Child Development and Concern Foundation (CDCF) cannot fail to celebrate the day in view of the cardinal objective of our organization which is “ensuring equal access to quality education for all children”. This cardinal objective of ours aligns with the theme of the celebration of this year’s Day of African Child which is “Education for All Children in Africa: The Time is Now”.

Education as we all know is the key to development. The theme of this year’s celebration is very apt in view of the yearning needs for development of Africa as a continent in which Nigeria has a giant role to play. Nigeria as a nation is so far not doing well towards the realization of true development of Africa in view of the fact that Nigeria has the population of 10.5 million out-of-school children (OOSC) which is the largest in the world. Also in West Africa, 46% of primary school aged children not in school are Nigerians. Globally, one out of five children not in school are Nigerians. These are indices showing Nigerian government’s nonchalant attitude to the education of our future leaders. All various efforts to eliminate this problem has not yielded any significant positive result. This is a clear manifestation of the fact that Nigerian government is not doing enough to arrest the problem of out-of-school children. If this problem is not properly addressed, it’s a manifestation of the fact that we don’t want to eliminate the problem of insurgency and terrorism that is bedeviling our nation.

There is the need to address the problem of out-of-school children holistically. Some of the ways to address it are;
1. To have the political will to arrest the problem of out-of-school children. Government must engage all the critical stakeholders to come together and address the problem.
2. There should be a significant increase in the education budget of the Federal Government as well as the State Governments. The budget must be prudently and judiciously managed.
3. Government should stop politicizing the issue of out-of-school children. There should be visible evidence of government’s determination to significantly reduce if not to totally eliminate the rate of out-of-school children.

As this year’s theme of the celebration of the Day of African Child clearly states that the time is NOW to give education to all children, government must heed to the clarion call. A nation that cares for the future which truly and rightly belongs to the children of today must give the right care to the children.

We at CDCF wish to congratulate all our children doing well in schools on this year’s celebration of the Day of the African Child. We are imploring you to remain highly focused and be prepared to take over the leadership with high level of responsibility in your best interest.

CALL FOR SUPPORT FOR AN INDIGENT BUT BRILLIANT STUDENT!

Meet Anifat Agboola, a National Diploma Student of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora. She's studying Science Laboratory Technology. She is a very serious, hardworking and brilliant student who has an outstanding results in her first year in the College despite facing financial hardships.

Academic Achievements:

- Scored A Grades in all her courses examination.
- Currently on a GPA of 4.00

Challenge:

Anifat Agboola comes from a low-income family struggling to make ends meet. Her mum has been a widow since 2001 and cannot afford to pay for her education. Her first year school fees was raised by crowd funding through our Organization, Child Development and Concern Foundation (CDCF).
With her very brilliant performance in the first year of the program in spite of her financial challenges, she deserves a direct scholarship to enable her concentrate with her studies and sustain her brilliant performance.
I have no doubt that if she is assured of scholarship, her future looks greatly promising.

Child Development and Concern Foundation (CDCF) 12th Annual Books Presentation Programme.

A child is seen as a gift from the Almighty Creator. We believe that the quality of lives of children makes a statement about the future of any society hence they are the future determinant in present value.
Every child has the capacity to become great in life, they are filled with talents and potentials that need to be developed through quality education and proper guidance which would set them on the path of becoming productive and responsible adults.

CDCF hosted its Annual Book Presentation Program on Wednesday, 6th November, 2024 at Islamic High School, Orita Basorun, Ibadan. This is aimed at providing education resources to indigent children. This initiative seeks to bridge the knowledge gap and foster a love for reading among underprivileged youngsters.

We had 35 beneficiaries who came with their parents and went back home joyfully with relevant textbooks and a dozen exercise books each. These beneficiaries are those enjoying the educational support of the organization under the initiative of its Adopt a School Child Programme (ASCP).

The programme is made possible with the financial support of philanthropic individuals. The donors take a child or more from public primary or secondary school and pay for their educational needs annually till the end of their primary and secondary education.

As at today, thirteen of the beneficiaries of the support programme (ASCP) picked from public primary and secondary schools are in higher institutions.

We look forward to expanding this initiative to reach more beneficiaries with your support.

In attendance as special guests at the ceremony were some of the members of CDCF Board of Directors - Alhaja Abbas Gbemisola and Mrs Rofiah Yussuf-Azeez. Also in attendance were Mr and Mrs Idris Rasheed, Mr Abdullahi Fasasi, the Principal of Islamic High School, Orita Basorun, Ibadan, Mr Ashipa (Vice Principal ) of Islamic High School, Mrs Aina and Mr Qoseem Agboola of Child Protection Network (CPN), Oyo State Chapter.
