🌍 World Environment Day 2026

At the Lake Chad Climate Justice Youth Fellowship, we believe climate action is inseparable from justice, equity, and youth leadership.

Across the Lake Chad Basin, young people continue to lead conversations, drive community solutions, and advocate for a future where people and the planet can thrive together.

This World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to building climate-resilient communities, amplifying local voices, and ensuring that no one is left behind in the transition toward a sustainable future.

The future of our climate depends on the actions we take today.

Climate change is not always far away.
Sometimes, it looks like flooding, extreme heat, dry water sources, poor harvests, or displacement within communities.

Local climate issues create real community realities β€” and people are living through them every day.

🌍 Climate action starts with understanding what is happening around us.

Powerful ideas, meaningful conversations, and shared learning shaped the workshop session in Chad as fellows of the Lake Chad Climate Justice Youth Fellowship came together to engage on climate justice and youth-led action. πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡©

The workshop session created space for collaboration, the exchange of experiences, and bold ideation on local climate realities and solutions in the Lake Chad region.

As they look forward to the Youth Hangout tomorrow, the fellows will continue the conversations with other young people, sharing knowledge, learning together, and strengthening collective action for climate justice.

The movement continues to grow.

Did you know?

Climate change does not affect everyone equally.

When climate disasters happen, women and girls often face higher risks β€” from unsafe journeys for water to increased vulnerability in displacement.

It’s not just about the environment.
It’s about safety, dignity, and protection.

Climate justice must include gender justice.

LCCJYF Country-Level Workshop Kicks off!

On April 29th and 30th, 2026, the Lake Chad Climate Justice Youth Fellowship will host its Country-Level Workshop in Niger πŸ‡³πŸ‡ͺ

Convened by our country partners, these workshop will bring together fellows for a powerful moment of reflection, collaboration, and action. Participants will engage in deep conversations on their learning journey, exchange ideas, and strengthen strategies for project implementation and impactful storytelling within their communities.

Alongside the workshops, we will host a Climate Justice Youth Hangout, mobilizing over 50 young people to connect, learn, and build networks around climate action. This space is designed to inspire shared learning, foster partnerships, and amplify youth-led solutions for climate justice across the Lake Chad region.

Some meetings feel routine.
Some feel necessary.
And some feel like the beginning of something important.
Our courtesy visit to the National Council on Climate Change (
National Council on Climate Change) was one of those moments.
We came not just to introduce our work, but to listen, to align, and to explore how youth-led climate action can meaningfully connect with national priorities.

From our Lake Chad Climate Justice Youth Fellowship supporting communities at the intersection of climate, insecurity, and livelihoods, to our work strengthening climate resilience among smallholder farmers, we see every day how local realities demand a coordinated national response.

We believe sustainable climate progress happens when institutions and communities move together.

This visit opened the door to conversations around collaboration in capacity building, youth inclusion in national processes, and scaling community-driven adaptation solutions.

We are grateful for the warm reception and thoughtful engagement.
And we look forward to what can be built through partnership.

Because climate action is stronger when we work together.
