NIESV PRESIDENT ATTENDS IRWA NIGERIA CHAPTER 84 ANNUAL SEMINAR, ADVOCATES ENHANCED CAPACITY FOR RIGHT OF WAY MANAGEMENT
The President and Chairman of Council, Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), ESV (Mallam) BATURE Ali Muhammad, PNIVS, FCIA, MIFMA, MIRWA, AIMC, AMIMN, pslc, on Thursday, 4 June 2026, attended the Annual Seminar of the International Right of Way Association (IRWA), Nigeria Chapter 84, held at Bon Octagon Hotels, Jahi District, Abuja, as the Guest of Honour.
The seminar, which attracted Professionals, Infrastructure experts, Policymakers, Development partners, and Stakeholders from across the country, focused on the theme: “Better Right of Way Management and Maintenance.”
In his remarks, the NIESV President commended the leadership of IRWA Nigeria Chapter 84 for organizing the seminar and providing a platform for meaningful engagement on issues critical to infrastructure development and sustainable corridor management. He described the theme as timely and relevant, particularly in view of the increasing need for efficient management of infrastructure assets and right of way corridors.
ESV (Mallam) BATURE Ali Muhammad PNIVS, FCAI, MIFMA, MIRWA , AIMC, AMIMN, pslc emphasized the importance of embracing technology-driven and strategic approaches to Right of Way management and maintenance. He noted that rapid technological advancements and changing market realities continue to reshape professional practice, making it imperative for practitioners to continuously update their skills and competencies.
The President urged professionals to remain proactive in learning, unlearning, and relearning in order to effectively respond to emerging industry demands. According to him, continuous professional development is essential for addressing skill gaps and ensuring that practitioners remain competitive and relevant in a rapidly evolving environment.
Speaking further, he highlighted the need for enhanced competencies in Land acquisition, Compensation administration, Railway and Pipeline corridor management, and other critical areas of Right of Way practice. He encouraged participants to align their operations with international standards and global best practices to improve service delivery and support national development objectives.
The NIESV President also called for deliberate investment in capacity building, skills assessment, and future-oriented training programmes that would equip practitioners with the knowledge and expertise required to meet present and future industry challenges.
He expressed confidence that the seminar would provide valuable insights and practical recommendations capable of improving Right of Way management practices in Nigeria while strengthening the capacity of professionals operating within the sector.
The event provided an opportunity for participants to share experiences, exchange ideas, and explore innovative solutions aimed at enhancing infrastructure corridor management and maintenance across the country.
