Equity Destitute child right and welfare initiative (EDCRAWI)in collaboration with KungiyarTallafin Mata Development Initiative (KTMDI) in continues pursuant of its strategic objective to enhance female inclusion in decision-making space, held an advocacy meeting with Kebbi State House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development. The meeting was held on 16th December 2025, at the Kebbi State House of Assembly Complex, Gwadangaji, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
The enabler of the meeting is its current project titled “Strengthening Female Political Participation and Leadership Development in Kebbi State” generously funded by Canada Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI). The participants for the meeting were drawn from Female Councilors’ Forum; women led organizations and women political groups across the four emirates in the state.
The objective of meeting was simply to advocate for increased female representation in both elective and appointed leadership positions at all levels in the state. More so, that the state assembly has never had women representation out of 24 constituencies from 1999 to date.
Most of the members of the committee acknowledged the justification for the meeting and assured of their support to the demand presented by the women. They also expressed their support for special reserve seats for women. The Hon. Members of the Committee advised the women to intensify sensitization and mobilization of their fellow women to join on board the political processes.

The Equity Destitute, Child Right and Welfare Initiative has received an invitation from the Sahel Initiative for Gender Equality and Development (SIGED) to participate in the 2025 global campaign.
In observance of the campaign, SIGED conducted a community sensitization program in Goru, Kebbi State, at the Hakimi's Palace. The program centered on enlightening community members about the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, with a simplified version of the law being read and explained page by page to facilitate comprehension of key offenses, penalties, and community compliance. The Child Protection Network (CPN) in partnerships with Equity Destitute Child Right and Welfare Initiative (EDCRAWI)16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

Today 06 of December 2025, During the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the (CPN) and Equity Destitute, Child Right and welfare initiative carried out a series of activities aimed at strengthening community awareness, providing survivor support, and improving reporting mechanisms for GBV cases.

1. Strengthening Reporting Systems
The CPN sensitized community members on the various GBV reporting channels available, including toll-free hotlines, community focal persons, social welfare offices, and digital reporting platforms. Participants were educated on the importance of timely reporting and confidentiality, as well as the referral pathways for emergency response.

2. Economic Empowerment for Survivors
As part of its commitment to supporting survivors’ recovery and independence, the CPN provided 20 survivors of GBV with ₦20,000 each. This empowerment initiative was designed to promote self-reliance, support small start-up activities, and help rebuild their livelihoods.

3. Provision of Free Psychosocial Support
Throughout the event, trained CPN counselors and social workers offered free psychosocial support services. These sessions helped survivors cope with trauma, build resilience, and access additional support services where needed.

Overall, the initiative contributed significantly to strengthening community protection systems, supporting survivors, and fostering a safer environment free from gender-based violence.

October 29, 2025 Equity Destitute child right and welfare initiative was invited to participate on CFLI-SFPPLD Project and Strategic Planning Meeting with Key Stakeholders

project titled “Strengthening Female Political Participation and Leadership Development in Kebbi State (SFPPLD) (2025–2027).

The event, held at City Guest Inn, Birnin Kebbi, brought together key stakeholders from government institutions, civil society organizations, women groups, the media, and women leaders from various political parties.

A total of 40 female participants, including two women with disabilities, participated in the strategic planning meeting,ensuring inclusiveness and representation of diverse voices in the discussion.

The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to understand the project’s objectives and discuss strategies for effective implementation.

KTMDI in collaboration with Equity Destitute child right and welfare initiative (EDCRAWI) Advocacy Visit to the Emir of Argungu Under the CFLI-SFPPLD Project.

On 11th November 2025, KTMDI & EDCRAWI Visited His Royal Highness, the Emir of Argungu, at the Kanta Palace, under the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI)–supported project titled “Strengthening Female Political Participation and Leadership Development (SFPPLD)”.

The advocacy visit began with introductions by all team members and a presentation of the project objectives by Hajiya Kulu.

In his inspiring remarks, the Emir of Argungu stated that a woman is the first teacher,from being a daughter, a sister, a wife, and a mother. He emphasized that women’s inclusion in politics and leadership is a global priority and offered his total support and blessings for women’s participation in decision-making.

He also revealed that he, the Sarkin Musulmi, the President of CAN and representatives of the Federal Government recently met with the President of Nigeria to advocate for greater women’s representation in governance.

The Emir expressed hope that in upcoming elections, women will fully participate and that Nigerian politics will achieve 50/50 representation. He concluded by saying, “When you educate a woman, you educate a nation,” and prayed for women to attain all the positions they deserve in the state and the nation.
