Statement from President Sheikh Dr Abdur Rahman As Sudais:
His Excellency the President of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al‑Sudais, commented on the incident in which a pilgrim threw himself from the first floor, calling upon visitors to the Two Holy Mosques to adhere to regulations and instructions, to revere the sanctity of the place, to observe proper Islamic manners therein, and to devote themselves to worship and obedience.
His Excellency warned against what some individuals—though very few—attempt by throwing themselves from upper levels, stressing that this constitutes a form of su***de, which is strictly forbidden in Islamic law. He cited the words of Allah Almighty:
“And do not kill yourselves.”
and the saying of the Prophet ﷺ:
“Whoever kills himself will be in the Fire of Hell,”
—may Allah protect us.
He further explained that among the objectives of Islamic law is the preservation of life and not exposing it to destruction, as Allah Almighty says:
“And do not throw yourselves into destruction with your own hands.”
His Excellency praised the efforts of the brave security personnel and the vigilance and care they continuously exert in safeguarding the security of the Two Holy Mosques, ensuring the safety of all visitors, and preventing any danger that could threaten their lives or the lives of others. He affirmed that the exemplary conduct demonstrated by the security forces reflects the highest standards of responsibility and represents an honorable model of the Saudi security officer, highlighting their ethical and humane professionalism.
He concluded by noting that this reflects the great care of the wise leadership—may Allah preserve it—for the Two Holy Mosques and its constant commitment to the safety and security of their visitors, asking Allah Almighty to grant success and guidance to all.
