📢 APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN — Ecologist Training Programme for Nigerian Researchers

Are you an MSc or PhD student in ecology, conservation, environmental science, forestry, agriculture, or wildlife management? Do you have your own ecological dataset but wish you had better tools to analyse and communicate it?

We're launching a 10-month hybrid training programme to help you do exactly that.

The programme combines in-person workshops in Gombe, Nigeria, with virtual learning sessions and mentorship, giving you practical skills in R programming, reproducible research, and advanced ecological modelling — applied directly to your own data.

WHO CAN APPLY?
• MSc or PhD students in ecology or related fields
• Researchers with an active ecological dataset (completed or ongoing)
• Those with basic statistics knowledge but limited R or modelling experience
• Anyone who can commit to the full 10-month programme
• Applicants with a laptop and reliable internet access

PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO:
• Female researchers and underrepresented groups in ecological sciences
• Applicants from under-resourced institutions
• Researchers with limited access to formal statistical training
• Those likely to contribute to increased ecological research visibility in Nigeria

✈️ TRAVEL SUPPORT: Limited bursaries available for participants coming from outside Gombe State.

📋 TO APPLY, SUBMIT:
1. Completed application form
2. Statement of interest (250–500 words)
3. CV (max 2 pages)
4. Description of your research project and dataset

Growing up, many of us spent time outdoors sitting under trees, watching birds fly across the sky, hearing insects buzz after the rain, or enjoying the shade and fresh air nature provides. We may not have realized it then, but biodiversity was quietly supporting our lives every day.

Trees clean our air. Bees and other pollinators help grow our food. Rivers sustain communities. Wildlife and ecosystems work together to keep our environment balanced.

Over time, one truth becomes clear: when we protect biodiversity, we protect ourselves.

Today, on World Biodiversity Day, let us remember that every species matters, every ecosystem has value, and every action we take can help build a healthier planet for future generations.

Protect nature. Restore ecosystems. Celebrate life in all its beautiful forms. 🌍🌱🦋🐝

Conservation projects do more than protect nature locally they shape global environmental policies. 🌍
When successful projects show real results in protecting forests, wildlife, and ecosystems, governments and international organizations use the evidence to create stronger conservation laws and agreements.
These projects provide data, innovation, and solutions that influence global policies on climate change, endangered species, and sustainable development.
From local action to global impact, every conservation project contributes to a healthier planet for future generations. 🌱🐘🌊

Biodiversity isn't just about animals in a forest.
It's a three-level system and Nigeria is home to all three.
From the Guinea Savanna stretching across our hills, to the plant species documented and undocumented, to the genetic uniqueness of every tree standing in our farmlands biodiversity is everywhere here.
The question is: Are we protecting it?
Day 12 of our countdown to
