THE SUSPENSION OF REVIEWED ALLOWANCES FOR MEDICAL/DENTAL AND OTHER HEALTH PROFESSIONALS IN THE FEDERAL PUBLIC SERVICE, NOT ENOUGH TO SUSPEND THE IMPENDING INDUSTRIAL ACTIONS BY NIGERIA NURSES AND MIDWIVES.

The attention of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives(NANNM) has been drawn to the circular from the National Salaries Income and Wages Commission (NSIWC), Suspending the derogatory allowances released on 27th June, 2025, which did not meet the expectations of healthcare workers.

This has also raised many concerns on the likelihood of the ultimatum issued by the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives being suspended or otherwise owing to the the circular suspension.

We want to State unequivocally that the suspension of the circular in question is just one item amongst the nine(9) demands the Association presented to the government and the Association cannot suspend the ultimatum until her legitimate requests are addressed.

For clarity purpose, the demands of the Association are as follows:
1.Gazetting of the Nurses scheme of service approved by the National Council on Establishment (NCE) in 2016 in Mina Niger State

2.Implementation of the National Industrial Court judgment of January 27th 2012.

3.Upward review of professional allowances for Nurses and Midwives

4.Employment of Nursing personnel and adequate provision of healthcare facility equipments

5.Creation of Department of Nursing in the Federal Ministry of Health.

6.Inclusion of Nurses in the Leadership of Healthcare policy making bodies.

7.Fair representation by the Association on the board membership in the FMOH&S

8.Centralization of internship posting for graduate nurses.

9.Consultancy for Nurses and Midwives.

The ultimatum given by the Association will expire in the next six(6) days(Midnight of 29th July 2025).

It is expected that Nurses and Midwives at all healthcare levels in Nigeria will withdraw their services for a seven (7) days warning strike peradventure the government fails to yield to the demands of NANNM.

Therefore, it is expected that the government will dialogue with the Association and address the demands of nurses and midwives to prevent the strike action

Life is precious!
Therefore, the government needs to act fast in the interest of Nigeria citizens.
