This week, Adda Girl Education Foundation participated in the close-out meeting of the “Girls Lead Advocacy” Project (GLAP), organized by Development Exchange Centre with support from Bread for the World Germany, held on 12th–13th May 2026 at Gombe International Hotel.

Represented by Program Coordinator Abubakar Abdullahi Hussain, ADDA presented the impact of its 6-month project implemented in Malam Jamo and Gamadadi communities of Akko LGA, Gombe State.

Through the project, girls were empowered with advocacy and public speaking skills to speak against BAREMA (farm labour), while mothers were supported through a Village Savings and Loan Scheme (VSLA) to strengthen household livelihoods. Safe spaces were also created for girls to learn, share experiences, and support one another.

One of the project’s major achievements was securing commitments from the State Ministry of Justice, community stakeholders, and parents to strengthen the protection of girls from abuse and exploitation and support their education instead of farm labour.

We are proud that our girl-led approach to advocacy and community engagement was highly commended by participants during the event.

At Adda Girl Education Foundation, we remain committed to empowering girls to lead, speak up, and create change in their communities.

Nairobi Charter on Transforming Education Financing (2026)

Civil society organisations across Africa convened in Nairobi (April 21–24, 2026) to push for urgent reforms in education financing. The charter highlights that while progress exists, funding remains insufficient, unequal, and heavily constrained by debt and global financial systems.

Notably, Adda Girl Education Foundation’s Program Manager, Samira Galadima, represented Nigeria at this important continental engagement amplifying the voice for girl-child education and equitable financing.

The charter reaffirms that education is a fundamental human right and calls on governments to invest based on what is needed to deliver free, quality, and inclusive education.

Key Calls to Action:
🔹 Allocate at least 20% of national budgets or 6% of GDP to education
🔹 Strengthen funding through tax justice and debt relief
🔹 Reject austerity policies that harm public education
🔹 Prioritise equity, inclusion, teachers, and infrastructure
🔹 Ensure transparency and accountability
🔹 Push for fair global financial systems

Bottom line: Africa’s future depends on bold investments in education ensuring no learner is left behind.

Education is the foundation of a better future and it starts with fairness.

When taxes are just, progressive and transparent, communities thrive, schools improve, and every child gets a chance to learn and succeed.

Let’s raise our voices for tax justice and quality education for all. The future depends on what we invest in today.
