On Menstrual Hygiene Day Celebration, students of Ozalla High School in Ozalla Enugu State participated in a thoughtful wellness session featuring light exercises designed to stabilize mood, boost overall health, and ease menstrual cramps.

The program went beyond theory, encouraging the girls to adopt these simple exercises as a lifelong habit for better physical comfort and mental wellbeing.

Activities included gentle stretching, deep breathing and pelvic tilts known to improve blood circulation, reduce bloating, and release endorphins — the body’s natural mood enhancers.

Facilitators emphasized that consistent movement during menstruation is not only safe but highly beneficial, helping to alleviate both physical discomfort and emotional stress.

Students were also reminded that prioritizing menstrual health is an important part of self-care and personal empowerment.

The initiative was warmly received, with many students expressing gratitude for the practical knowledge and the reminder that their wellbeing matters every day — not just during their period.

The highlight of our Menstrual Hygiene Day Outreach for the girl children was the one-on-one counseling sessions. For many of them, this was truly the icing on the cake. They were deeply heard, seen, valued, and given meaningful psychological support.

MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY 2026 OUTREACH AT OZALLA HIGH SCHOOL

Beyond the Pads – A memorable day of learning, inclusion, and holistic wellness!
On May 29, 2026, the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation and the UNTH Foundation proudly hosted the second edition of our joint Total Care Mind and Body Outreach at Ozalla High School, Ozalla, Nkanu West LGA, Enugu State.

Approximately 200 students (about 120 girls and 80 boys) gathered for an engaging session focused on menstrual health, emotional wellbeing, and breaking taboos. We intentionally included the boys to promote understanding, support, and inclusion – because healthy conversations benefit everyone.

Quick Recap of Our First Outreach
This school program builds beautifully on the successful launch of the Total Care Mind and Body Outreach series. On January 24, 2026, we held the maiden edition at the Community Primary School Field in Ameke Ozalla. Over 100 seniors and retirees (60+) received free holistic care, including:
* Medical checks
* Dental screenings
* Gentle wellness exercises
* Mental health talks (covering loneliness, dementia awareness, and more)
* TB, HIV, and Syphilis screenings
* Nutrition and counseling support.

It was a heartwarming day that reminded us all that true wellbeing cares for both mind and body at every stage of life.
Highlights from the Menstrual Hygiene Day Program
* Clear, age-appropriate education on menstruation as a natural biological process.
* Practical tips for managing symptoms and maintaining proper hygiene.
* Individual counseling sessions
* Honest conversations on mental health during periods – mood swings, anxiety, and simple self-care strategies.
* Strong emphasis on sexual abstinence before marriage.
* Tackling harmful myths and encouraging girls to speak openly with parents and teachers.

The interactive quiz stole the show! The entire hall was alive with energy as students actively participated, asked questions, and learned together.

Mr. Simon Akaeme, Principal of Ozalla High School, expressed deep appreciation for bringing these vital, real-life topics into the school environment.

We were led by Professor Theresa Nwagha (CEO, UNTH Foundation) and Reverend Chukwudiebube Nwachukwu (Founder, Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation), along with our dedicated teams. A big thank you to the school leadership for the warm partnership!

During the Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration hosted by the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation and UNTH Foundation at Ozalla High School, Ozalla, Enugu State, students — both girls and boys — were empowered with insightful educational handbills to consolidate the knowledge gained.

Participants received comprehensive education on the biology of menstruation, the menstrual cycle, personal hygiene practices, and safe disposal methods. The program also addressed the critical link between menstrual health and mental wellbeing, encouraging students to prioritize holistic self-care.

Crucially, the session emphasized the role of everyone in menstrual health management. Boys, teachers, fathers, and community members were reminded of their vital position as allies in dismantling harmful taboos and fostering a supportive, stigma-free environment.

During our Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration, we actively involved the boys in supporting the girls.

Together, they proudly demonstrated that bleeding red is a natural part of a girl’s life — a symbol of strength, resilience, and pride, not shame or a taboo that fuels stigma.

This powerful display of solidarity not only boosted the girls’ confidence, self-worth, and self-esteem but also planted seeds of empathy and understanding in the boys.

By educating boys early and making them active allies, we are raising a generation of young men who will challenge harmful norms, support their sisters, partners, and daughters, and help create a society where menstruation is openly discussed without fear.

True change begins when boys don’t just witness the conversation — they become part of it.

Boys’ inclusion is essential in breaking the cycle of menstrual stigma and shame while building a more equitable future for everyone.
