A 20-year-old woman went into labour.
Doctors advised an emergency C-section to save her and her baby because of complications.

But her husband refused.
He insisted she “must give birth naturally like other women.”

She was taken out of the hospital to a church.
They forced the baby out.

The baby died.
Her womb was damaged beyond repair.
Doctors later had to remove her womb just to save her life. 💔

At 20 years old.
A young woman lost her child and lost the chance to carry another baby again.

This is why we MUST stop shaming women for having C-sections.

A CS is not weakness.
A CS is not failure.
A CS can SAVE A LIFE.

Safe delivery is not about ‘proving strength.’
Safe delivery is BOTH mother and baby coming out alive and healthy.

Please, listen to trained medical professionals during childbirth.
Don’t let ignorance, pressure, tradition, or fear cost a woman her future.

This week, my heart has been heavy.
I’ve seen so many cases of Cerebral Palsy, and each one reminds me just how delicate birth can be.

The truth is ,we can’t always prevent complications. But what we can do is make informed, timely decisions and find peace in knowing we did everything we could.

Bringing a child with special needs into the world is not a walk in the park.
It’s a lifelong journey , one filled with love, but also immense challenge.

To every mum facing that path, and to those making hard birth choices to avoid it where possible , we see you, we stand with you, and we honour your strength. 💚

Did you know that prolonged labor ; when labor lasts too long or becomes complicated, can sometimes lead to a lack of oxygen to the baby’s brain, increasing the risk of Cerebral Palsy? Sometimes, the body doesn’t cooperate the way we hope. Labor stalls. The baby is in distress. And in those moments, choosing a safer birthing method like a C-section can save a child’s future.

Why Do Many African Women Reject C-Sections, Even When Doctors Recommend It?

For many African women, the fear or rejection of C-section (CS) isn’t about stubbornness. It’s often rooted in deep cultural beliefs, misinformation, and pressure from society. Below are a few honest reasons why:

1:Cultural Perception:
In some communities, natural birth is seen as the only “proof” of womanhood or strength. A CS mum may be unfairly judged as “too weak” or “not woman enough.” To prove her womanhood she insists on natural birth even to the detriment of herself and baby.

2: Fear and Misinformation:
Many women have heard scary or exaggerated stories about C-sections ; complications, pain, or “never being the same again”, without understanding that modern medicine has made CS safer than ever.

3: Financial Concerns:
In some areas, C-sections are expensive or not easily accessible. The financial strain can make families hesitant, even when medically necessary. This one ehh...80% of the reason. Our government should do better.

4:Social Pressure:
Sometimes, family members, spouses, or in-laws discourage CS because of old myths ; telling mothers they can “pray it away” or “just push harder.”

Are there any other reasons you think women reject CS?
