🚨 Bioko Island Wants Out — And This Time, It’s Loud 🚨
This isn’t a new story… it’s a suppressed one.
Bioko — the island that hosts most of Equatorial Guinea’s oil wealth — is home to the Bubi people. Different culture. Different language. Different identity.
But since 1968, they’ve been tied to a system many say doesn’t represent them.
Now the call is rising again.
Groups like the Movimiento para la Autodeterminación de la Isla de Bioko (MAIB) and EIRA IPOLA are pushing one message:
“We control the resources… but not our future.”
Here’s the tension:
▪️ Oil flows from Bioko — but locals say poverty still bites
▪️ Power sits in Malabo — but many feel unheard
▪️ Culture exists — but many fear it’s slowly being erased
The government calls it illegal.
Africa doesn’t support border breakups.
And the system isn’t changing anytime soon.
But here’s the reality:
This isn’t just politics anymore… it’s pressure building.
With oil money shrinking and frustration rising, the movement is shifting online, getting louder, and reaching new eyes.
