Today we had an official inauguration of Awka N’Obara Development Council (ANDC).

This body is the only body that operates across the entire communities within Ihakpu Awka in some specific areas.

This body is a unifying force in our community.

As the President General of ANDC, I say a very big congratulations to us.

I trust all my team members, we are going to do our best for the betterment of our dear communities (Agu Ihakpu Awka and Ihakpu Awka).

Together we can do better.

OFFICIAL INFORMATION.

We had a special meeting with the local government chairman of Igbo Eze South today about Ihakpu Awka Technical College.

Mayor promised to support all the efforts of our dear community to make our dream of Technical College come through.

He also used the opportunity to give a conditional lift on the ban of Ihakpu Awka masquerade display only on 23rd August 2025. This is to allow those that have plans of celebrating the end of the display to do so without any form of violence.

Note: The masquerades are not permitted to display with canes or any other object that can cause injury to humans.

*Iheakpu-Awka: Mayor Ukwueze Meets with Leadership, Halts Akatakpa Activities for 2025, Assumes Medical Bill of Victim and Vehicle Repair*

The Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government, Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, on Tuesday, 19th August 2025, visited Iheakpu-Ulo community in the wake of the violent activities linked to the Akatakpa masquerade festival.

During the visit, Mayor Ukwueze held a crucial meeting with the traditional leadership, elders and other critical community stakeholders, where he strongly condemned the brutal acts perpetrated under the guise of cultural celebration. He described the incident as a departure from the values and identity for which the people of Igbo-Eze South are known.

While reaffirming his administration’s respect and support for the cultural and traditional heritage of the people, the Mayor stressed that culture must not be exploited as a cover for criminality. In this regard, he ordered the immediate suspension of Akatakpa activities in the community throughout 2025 as a decisive preventive measure against further occurrences.

In addition to the directive, Mayor Ukwueze announced that the local government would assume full responsibility for the medical expenses of the victim of the attack, Mr Yusuf, as well as cover the costs of repairing his damaged vehicle. He further directed the arrest and prosecution of the suspects already identified in connection with the incident.

Responding on behalf of the community, the elders and leadership of Iheakpu-Awka expressed appreciation for the Mayor’s prompt intervention, describing it as timely and reassuring. They pledged their commitment to ensuring total compliance with the suspension order and reiterated their readiness to work with the local government to safeguard peace and order within the community.

Mayor Ukwueze assured that his administration will continue to prioritise the protection of lives and property, while promoting a peaceful coexistence that preserves cultural identity without undermining the security and well-being of the people.

Update on the Dr. Dilibe Chukwuka Scholarship programme.

Earlier today, having completed the qualification examination process, the names of the winners of the Dr. Dilibe Chukwuka's Scholarship programme was announced, amidst joy and jubilation.

A good son Of Ihakpu Awka, a U.S based Medical Doctor, Philanthropist and educationist, Dr. Dilibe Chukwuka, has kicked off a Scholarship initiative for some students of Community Secondary School, Ihakpu Awka.

According to the details shared by the President General, Ihakpu Awka Community, Mr. Kizito Livinus in a Facebook post, he said that this initiative was motivated by Dr. Dilibe's quest to raise awareness about the importance of education, encourage the intelligent Children in Ihakpu Awka who cannot afford school fees, and inspire the people of Ihakpu Awka, to believe more in education, especially now that young people want to get rich quick.

He said, that after a lengthy conversation, he concluded that he will give scholarship to some students in Community Secondary School, Ihakpu Awka.
He said that at least, he will start with annual scholarship, payment of 2nd and 3rd school fees for 3 students from JSS1 to SS2.

To facilitate the implementation of the programme, the PG contacted Miss Ihakpu Awka, Lolo Emeka Jennifer Adaobi who so far has been the one handling the scholarship qualification process, conducting exams for the students among others.

The list of the successful students will be posted, as soon as the process is concluded.

All thanks to Dr. Dilibe Chukwuka, hopeful that this will awaken others to join in this marvelous work.
