Bandits demand for Shariah Law to be enacted in Oyo among their numerous conditions to release the school children and teachers abducted from the state.
The conditions listed by the House of Assembly member did not, however, include the enactment of Shariah Law. They demanded for concession of future laws (to favour bandits) in Oyo state.
When Nigerians heard concession of future law, they couldn't place it anywhere but on Islamic law.
Let's say Shariah Law took over Oyo state. These are some of the (simplified) punishments for bandits and banditry according to Islamic Criminal Laws. I’m open to correction by the way.
1. If you kidnap someone and you get caught, you’ll be sent into exile.
2. If you kidnap someone, take ransom and get caught, you extremities will be amputated disproportionately. Meaning, your left hand and right leg will be cut off.
3. If you kidnap and kpai your victim and you are caught, you’ll be kpaid as well. It's a life for a life.
This is to set precedence for those who may want to be involved in such criminal activities.
No part of Shariah law shields or promotes banditry and terrorism.
If Shariah law were their concern, they wouldn't terrorize Muslims in the north. If you don't live in the north, you won't understand how much this banditry and terrorism has eaten deep into them. The Muslims are the largest victims of terrorism in Nigeria.
Of what importance will Shariah be to bandits living in the forest? Bandits didn't enforce Shariah law in Borno, Zamfara or Kwara state but in Oyo State? Think about it. Something is fishy.
My point is, whoever is promoting that “bandits wants Shariah law in Oyo state” has an agenda of fueling the already existing crisis between Muslims and Christians in Nigeria. In fact, the entire abduction that happened in Oyo state is political judging from their demands.
This is politics and we are just tools for these people.
Until the sun stops rising, we would always pray for our dear country. May peace be restored.
