The Network of Yobe Women-Led Organisations today paid an advocacy and familiarisation visit to the Project Coordinator of AGILE at the Yobe State Project Office.

The engagement focused on strengthening partnerships and exploring collaborative strategies to advance girls’ education, empowerment, and protection across Yobe State. During the meeting, the PC highlighted the key components of AGILE, which include the promotion of safe and inclusive learning environments, support for girls’ enrollment and retention in school, and empowerment through life skills and mentorship initiatives, also emphasising the strengthening of education systems and policy engagement components.

The Network reaffirmed its comparative advantage in community mobilisation, advocacy, girls’ empowerment through life skills training, and GBV prevention and response, expressing readiness to collaborate with AGILE in expanding outreach, supporting vulnerable girls, and promoting positive behavioural change at the grassroots level.

We appreciate the warm reception and look forward to sustained collaboration in building a brighter future for every girl child.

Today, the Network of Yobe Women-Led CSOs facilitated a community radio dialogue to address the negative behaviours sometimes exhibited by young boys and girls during festivities, while promoting positive values and responsible youth engagement in our communities.

The program brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Yobe State Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Social Development, Mr Yarima Isa, the Yobe State Hisbah Commission, Sister Hauwa Idriss, and members of the WOLNY EXCO.

The discussion focused on strengthening community responsibility, family guidance, and institutional collaboration in shaping the moral values of young people.

An interactive phone-in segment also gave avenue to community members to actively contributed their perspectives, highlighting shared responsibility of parents, religious leaders, schools, government institutions, and civil society in fostering a culture of discipline, respect, and positive social behaviour among young people.

This engagement reflects the Network’s ongoing commitment to community-driven dialogue, youth development, and promoting peaceful and responsible celebrations during festive periods.

Advocacy Visit to UNHCR Yobe State Office

On the same day, the Women-Led Organizations Network of Yobe (WOLNY) has extended its advocacy engagements to the State Coordinator of UNHCR Yobe State, Mr. Joshua Akanbi.

During the meeting, the Coordinator appreciated the Network for the timely visit where he emphasized that activities of women-led organizations has aligned with vision and mandates of United Nations agencies working on protection and humanitarian support.

He acknowledged that many opportunities are often missed due to weak coordination among some national NGOs and especially the women-led organizations in thestate, and therefore welcomed the emergence of the Network’s newly elected leadership.

Mr. Akambi encouraged the Network to prioritize institutional capacity strengthening and organizational structure, emphasizing the importance of putting strong systems in place. He advised the Network to develop key governance and operational policies, including PSEA/Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse policies, safeguarding, diversity, and other guiding operational frameworks to strengthen credibility and effectiveness.

He also highlighted opportunities for capacity strengthening through collaboration with UN agencies in the state and expressed his willingness to provide technical support, particularly during calls for proposals. He encouraged women-led organizations to form consortiums and apply for funding opportunities, assuring the Network that he is ready to support both collective and individual organizational efforts to access resources.

The meeting was very fruitful, and the Network expressed its sincere appreciation to the State Coordinator for granting the audience despite his busy schedule.

Our advocacy training has stopped at Taimako Community Development Initiative (TCDI)

Advocacy & Familiarisation Visit to TCDI

The Women-Led Organizations Network of Yobe (WOLNY) paid a courtesy, familiarisation, and advocacy visit to the Executive Director and team of Taimako Community Development Initiative (TCDI). The purpose of the visit was to formally introduce the newly elected Executive Council members of the Network, seek professional advice, and explore opportunities for collaboration and capacity strengthening.

During the engagement, WOLNY appreciated TCDI for its impactful work in supporting communities and advancing the protection of women and girls across Yobe State.

In his response, the Executive Director of TCDI commended the Network for its commitment to strengthening coordination among women-led CSOs in the state. He noted that the visit reflects the Network’s dedication to partnership, learning, and institutional growth.

He advised the Network to prioritise strengthening the institutional capacity of its member organisations to access grant opportunities, register with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and develop key governance policies and operational documents. He also emphasised the importance of maintaining regular communication with members, increasing advocacy and visibility with relevant MDAs, and prioritising the needs of vulnerable women in communities. Furthermore, he encouraged the leadership to uphold accountability and transparency, remain open to constructive feedback, build partnerships, and explore sustainable resource mobilisation strategies for impactful interventions.

The Executive Director reaffirmed TCDI’s commitment to supporting the growth of the Network and generously donated ₦100,000 to support WOLNY’s advocacy logistics.

The visit concluded with closing remarks, prayers, and a group photograph.

The EXCO of the Women-Led Organizations Network in Yobe (WOLNY) paid an advocacy visit to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Office, where we had fruitful discussions with the Mrs Deborah Mbursa the head of field office on food security, agriculture initiatives, and other areas of mutual interest aimed at improving the livelihoods of vulnerable communities.

The meeting ended with shared commitment to strengthen partnerships and capacity strengthening to improve localisation agenda that facilitate women’s active participation in agriculture to improve food security.

Today, the EXCO of the Network of Women-Led CSOs paid an advocacy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Primary Health Care Management Board (YSPHCMB) Dr Babagana Kundi Machina

The visit provided an opportunity to introduce the Network and explore potential areas of collaboration, particularly in advancing healthcare and protection interventions for women and children. We commended the Board for its strong grassroots presence and discussed how women-led organisations can leverage this reach to support timely community-based interventions.

We look forward to strengthening partnerships that improve access to essential services for vulnerable communities.

Press Statement on World International Women's Day Celebration By Yobe State

Yobe State Celebrates International Women's Day with Call to Action

Yobe State joined the global community to mark International Women's Day with a grand celebration, featuring a keynote address by the Hon Commissioner for Women Affairs ably represented by The Director Women Affairs. Ad Hon Commissioner Humanitarian Affairs Hajia Dr Mero A K Amshi, The chairman Yobe CSOs and The Director Yobe Women Led CSOs Network in person of Dr Zara Yusuf.
The event, themed "Rights, Justice, Action For ALL, Women and Girls" Brought together partners including SEMA, UN Women, UNHCR, and Network of Women Led CSOs.

A paper on "Recognition of Women Leaders" was presented by the Center for Community Development and Research Network (CCDRN), followed by panel discussions on strengthening legal protection for women and girls, and community-institutional collaboration for their protection.

The event was moderated by the Justice Sector Reform Team (JSRT) and concluded with closing prayers.
