International Day of Education | 24 January

Today, GIRD joins the global community to celebrate the International Day of Education under the theme:
“The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education.”

We recognize that young people are not just beneficiaries of education—they are leaders, innovators, and partners in shaping inclusive, safe, and resilient education systems.

At GIRD, we remain committed to promoting equitable access to quality education, empowering girls and boys, and strengthening community-driven solutions that leave no one behind.

When youth are empowered, education becomes transformative.

When communities are involved, learning becomes sustainable.

Together, let us continue to invest in education as a foundation for peace, protection, and development.

Promoting Rest, Healing, and Well-being in Conflict-Affected Communities 🕊️

Today, our team at Grassroot Initiative for Humanitarian and Development Response (GIRD) conducted a community sensitization session in Damaturu, focusing on the importance of quality sleep and stress management among individuals most affected by conflict.

The session emphasized how adequate sleep supports emotional stability, mental recovery, and overall health, especially for those coping with trauma and displacement.

Through interactive discussions and relaxation techniques, participants learned practical ways to create healthier sleep routines and improve their well-being.

Together, we’re building healthier, more resilient communities — one peaceful night’s rest at a time. 💙

Every year on September 9th, the world comes together to remind ourselves of the urgent need to safeguard schools, protect learners and educators, and uphold education as a fundamental right.

Education should never be a target. Yet, across many conflict-affected regions, children, teachers, and schools continue to face threats that disrupt their dreams and deny communities a brighter future.

At GIRD, we stand firm in advocating for safe learning environments, where every child can learn without fear and every educator can teach with dignity. Together, we must raise our voices to ensure that education remains a beacon of hope, resilience, and peace.

Join us in calling for the protection of education everywhere. Because when we protect education, we protect the future.

World Su***de Prevention Day 2025

Today, we join the world in saying every life matters.
This year’s theme: “Changing the Narrative on Su***de” reminds us that su***de is preventable, and together we can break the silence, fight the stigma, and bring hope.

Know the signs:
Talking about wanting to die
Feeling hopeless or like a burden
Withdrawing or isolating
Acting anxious, reckless, or showing extreme mood swings

A simple conversation, a listening ear, or showing care could save a life.
Let’s raise awareness, offer support, and remind one another that help is always available.

Together, let’s change the story from pain to hope.

At GIRD, we remain committed to protecting our communities from Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual Exploitation & Abuse (SEA).

Our dedicated volunteers in Potiskum took the message to parents through a sensitisation and awareness campaign—empowering them with knowledge on how to safeguard their children and use the right channels to report abuse.

Together, we can build safer communities for every child.

Hello September!

As we step into a new month, we celebrate the dedication, passion, and resilience of our GIRD team.

Last month, together we reached lives, created hope, and proved once again that humanity thrives when compassion leads the way. Every activity, every effort, every act of service has made a difference and we are deeply grateful.

September brings new opportunities, new challenges, and new hopes. Let us continue to work with the same spirit of hard work, unity, and commitment to serving humanity.

Together, we are building safer, stronger, and more inclusive communities.
Here’s to another month of impact!

Today, we join the world in raising our voices against the devastating impact of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

At GIRD we believe in empowering communities especially young people to say NO to drugs and YES to a healthier, safer future.

Drug abuse destroys lives, families, and communities. Together, through awareness, education, and compassion, we can build a drug-free society.

Today, we stand in solidarity with millions of displaced people around the world — and especially in Northeast Nigeria — who have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety, dignity, and hope.

At GIRD, we remain committed to responding with compassion, supporting refugee communities with lifesaving aid, livelihood support, and pathways to healing and resilience.

This year’s theme reminds us that every person deserves to feel safe and be given a fair chance to rebuild their life. Refugees are not just survivors — they are mothers, fathers, teachers, farmers, and dreamers.

Let’s continue to advocate for inclusion, protection, and lasting solutions.
