Turning 30 was not something I looked forward to, it was something I quietly feared.

It came with a deep sense of 'insufficiency', feeling like I was behind in life, struggling to stay aligned with my purpose.

I began to question everything I once believed in.
I withdrew from certain people and environments.
The things that once excited me slowly lost their meaning.

And this feeling didn’t just appear overnight;
it started getting louder from the moment I turned 28.

If I’m being honest, it felt like I was losing myself.

But now I understand something I didn’t know then— I wasn’t losing myself, I was transitioning.

And I know I’m not alone in this.

So I’m creating a safe, honest space for conversations many of us are afraid to have.

"Parents Launch Global Appeal to Save 3-Year-Old Fiyinfoluwa from Rare Heart Disease"

A family in Jos has made a desperate appeal to the public for help in saving the life of their 3-year-8-month-old son, Fiyinfoluwa Barnabas Clement-Ake, who is battling a rare and life-threatening heart condition.

Fiyinfoluwa, described by his parents as a cheerful and intelligent child, was diagnosed in May 2022 with Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease (Truncus Arteriosus Type 1), a defect that affects how blood flows through the heart and body. The condition has left his heart enlarged, weakened, and constantly struggling to keep him alive.

According to his father, Clement O. Ake, a postgraduate student at ECWA Theological Seminary, Jos (JETS), and his wife, an undergraduate at the same institution, their son’s survival now depends on urgent medical intervention abroad.

Doctors at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), in collaboration with a partner hospital in India, have recommended a cardiac catheterization and open-heart surgery, warning that any further delay may render the procedure impossible.

The cost of treatment is estimated at $13,500 USD (₦21.6 million), excluding travel and living expenses in India, which could push the total to over ₦30 million. Despite exhausting personal resources and seeking help, the family has only been able to raise part of the funds.

“This is a cry from a father’s heart. We have prayed, we have tried everything, but time is against us. If Fiyinfoluwa doesn’t get this surgery immediately, we may lose him,” Clement said in a heartfelt appeal.
The family is now calling on individuals, organizations, faith-based groups, and philanthropists to support financially, share their story, or help connect them with sponsors.

I came across a Facebook post yesterday about a secondary school girl discovered with a contraceptive implant, and I was deeply concerned—but not for the acclaimed ‘moral decadence’. What struck me professionally was the framing of the conversation, which overshadowed the real child protection issues at stake. I felt compelled to share my thoughts publicly after same story surfaced on our Child Protection Area of Responsibility platform this morning.

The story began with a teacher “disciplining the student”, during which blood was seen dripping from her arm. She was taken to the principal’s office and asked to remove her shirt. To everyone’s shock, the bleeding came from an implant device in her upper arm. Further investigation revealed dozens of other girls with similar implants.

The original post framed this as a moral crisis and even suggested early marriage as a solution. But for me, the real crisis lies elsewhere:

✅ Abuse normalized as discipline – The incident began with physical punishment that could have caused serious harm.
✅ Absence of safeguarding systems – Schools should be safe spaces, not environments where violence thrives.
✅ Rising cases of sexual abuse by trusted persons – Often hidden in schools and communities.
✅ Weak enforcement of child protection laws– Sexual activity with a minor is a crime, even with “consent.”

A girl using an implant in a world where we lack robust systems to protect her from assault and coercion is not the problem. In fact, it is commendable that SRHR services exist to prevent unwanted pregnancy and stigma.

We should be asking:

* How are we protecting girls from abuse and exploitation?
* Where are the reporting mechanisms and safeguarding frameworks?
* How often do we provide comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights education to empower girls with the truth about their bodies and rights?
* How aware are girls when it comes to Gender based violence?

Happy 34th Anniversary, Yobe State!🫡

Our challenges have been immense, but our determination to overcome them has always been stronger. United by our collective will, we have risen above the dust and weathered every storm that came our way.

We are the pride of the Sahel, just as envisioned by our founding fathers, a true beacon of hope, wearing our strength, dignity, and resilience from the North, East, South, and across our coastlines. Breaking every limit they thought we could never surpass.

For 34 years, we have stayed true to this resolve: moving higher, forward, better, and revived!

Yobe is 34. Through storms of insurgency and waves of crisis, we have continued to emerge stronger—thanks to the courage of our people and the unwavering resolve of our leaders!
