THE GIFT PROJECT, 2024 BUDGET AND STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVED PUBLIC FINANCE MANAGEMENT.

As 2024 begins, financial tension persists, with much hinging on the successful implementation of the 2024 budget. The GIFT Project advocates for oversight, and fiscal reforms, among others, to guide the direction of things for positive outcomes.

Are there hindrances to implementing the 2024 budget? What aspects of legislative duties must Parliamentarians uptake to drive fiscal reforms, and what role do citizens play in fiscal transparency and accountability?

Advocacy Visit to the Hon. Chairman, Public Account Committee (PAC) at NASS.

The Growth Initiative for Fiscal Transparency (GIFT) II cluster recently visited the Chairman, Honourable Bamidele Salam to request collaboration in achieving project objectives, particularly on the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) amendment Committee oversight and National Dialogue.

He applauded the GIFT project and stated that the initiative was an excellent cause to probe into public finance and fiscal transparency, which is a crucial and tricky issue, especially where we have a fragile system and institutions in Nigeria.

We are excited that the Chairman extended his full support and willingness to work with the cluster on the GIFT project to ensure that the laudable objectives of the project are accomplished.

It was interesting to hear the Chairman condemn the over 400 MDAs who are yet to make remittances in years.
He concluded by stating that the success of the Project would be in the best interest of all parties.
