Countless Encomiums as Obubra–Etung Students Receive Lifeline Support from the Abon Abang Foundation

In a ceremony suffused with gratitude, promise, and intellectual illumination, the Abon Abang Foundation extended transformative educational support to postgraduate and undergraduate students of Obubra and Etung. The atmosphere at Hoggis Luxury Hotel, Calabar, where the event unfolded, brimmed with rivers of joy—an ambience befitting a moment in which hope was not merely spoken of, but tangibly delivered.

Chaired by Dr. Emmanuel Awubi of the Department of Public Administration, University of Calabar, the gathering carried the dignified air of academic seriousness blended with communal pride. Setting the intellectual tone for the day, Dr. Victor Etim Ndum of the Institute of Public Policy and Administration delivered a stirring keynote address titled “Education as a Key to Opportunity: Building Leaders for Future Impact.”

With scholarly grace and rhetorical force, Dr. Ndum reminded the audience that education remains the most powerful equalizer—“a ladder that lifts the determined from the narrow plains of limitation to the wide horizons of possibility.” He emphasized the need for deliberate investments in human capital as the cornerstone of sustainable advancement.

Across the hall, dignitaries, academics, community influencers, and well-wishers delivered warm goodwill messages that highlighted the profound significance of the initiative. Many speakers seized the moment to extol Engineer Dr. George Ndifon Abang, the visionary architect of the Foundation, whose quiet brilliance and patriotic devotion continue to redefine philanthropic leadership in Obubra and Etung. His commitment to nurturing intellectual growth was praised as both strategic and deeply humane—an investment in minds that will shape the region’s future.

For the beneficiaries, many of whom expressed heartfelt appreciation, the support represents more than financial relief. It is a reaffirmation that their aspirations matter and that a thoughtful leader has chosen to stand with them in their academic journey.

Through this gesture, the Abon Abang Foundation continues to illuminate pathways of opportunity and inspire a culture of excellence. At the close of the ceremony, the hall still echoed with applause, gratitude, and renewed determination—evidence that when enlightened leadership empowers young scholars, a brighter collective future is set in motion.

The Foundation is created in honour of the enduring legacy of Mr. Asu Ndifon Abang – a scholar, farmer, and philanthropist whose life embodied service, knowledge, and compassion. A man deeply rooted in the soil yet soaring in thought, he combined the discipline of scholarship with the resilience of farming and the generosity of philanthropy.

Guided by his humanistic ideals,
Served as manager, chief Estate manager General manager in all the Cocoa and Palm Estates which led to the name he is fondly called Manager Abang. Manager Abang brought about the Cocoa revolution in Cross River State by the Introduction of Small holders scheme which is famously called the Cocoa Allocation, this singular initiative led to the increase in IGR and improved livelihood for smallholder farmers.
Manager Abang believed that knowledge should serve humanity, that agriculture could empower communities, and that giving was the highest expression of leadership. His values touched lives, strengthened families, and inspired a vision of sustainable development grounded in education, enterprise, and compassion.

The Abon Abang Foundation is therefore the coming together of his children, who, moved by the noble path he charted, seek to build upon this legacy of service and thought. It stands not merely as a memorial to one man’s greatness, but as a living platform to extend his ideals into future generations – nurturing minds, empowering communities, and sustaining the dignity of humanity.
