WHAT AUTHENTICITY MEANS TO ME
I used to think being 'authentic’ was just a buzzword... until I met my friend Sarah 5 years ago.
In a world where everyone was trying to be 'slay queens' or the 'perfect student,' Sarah was just... Sarah. She didn't hide her struggles with her grades, she didn't pretend to like things she didn't, and she wore her faith on her sleeve, even when it wasn't 'cool.'
I watched her turn down parties that didn't align with her values, but she did it without judgment. She was the most at-peace person I knew.
One day I asked her, 'Don't you care if people think you're weird?' And she told me: 'I’d rather be rejected for who I am than loved for who I’m pretending to be.' That moment changed my perspective. I realized that when you’re real, you don't lose people; you just filter out the ones who aren't meant for your journey.
God didn't call us to be a copy of someone else. He called us to be ourselves, with his word as the foundation of our identity.
“Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.”
Galatians 1:10 NLT
