PRESS CONFERENCE
Distinguished Members of the Press, Ladies and Gentlemen Assalamu Alaikum Warahamatullahi
On behalf of the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations Kebbi State Chapter sympathize with the Government and People Kebbi State especially the parents of the abducted girls of Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School Maga in Danko Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State. We are gathered here today to express our deepest concern and outrage over this unfortunate incident orchestrated by the armed bandits. This heinous act is a direct attack on the safety, education and future of our children.
We condemn in the strongest terms the abduction and the violence against these innocent girls and their families. Education is a fundamental right, theretofore no child should live in fear of violence in whatsoever manner when pursuing their dreams.
We call on the government to:
1. Intensify search and rescue operations to ensure the safe return of all the abducted girls and other people in captivity
2. Strengthen Security measures around schools, communities and relocate all Boarding Schools situated at remote areas or prone/vulnerable to attack across the State to a more safer locations to prevent re-occurrence of such incidents.
3. Engage with Community leaders and other critical stakeholders to foster dialogue, Prevention, peace and resilience building Initiatives in all the wards and villages across the state,
4. Provide comprehensive support to the victim families immediately (psychological care)
5. Full implementation of Safe Schools Initiative which Kebbi State Government is a beneficiary of the grants received from World Bank under the (AGILE Project)
6. Strengthening partnership and collaboration with sister states of Sokoto, Zamfara and Niger States in the areas of intelligence gathering and protection against any possible attacks by the terrorist groups
7. Continue providing support to Security Agencies and our Local security outlets to help in overcoming the security challenges bedeviling our state.
Gentlemen of the Press ladies and gentlemen, let me also use this medium to call on the International Community, media and all Nigerians to stand in Solidarity with the affected families and amplify calls for swift justice and protection for our Children.
To this end we call on parents, teachers and communities to remain vigilant and work closely with authorities. Lets unite in condemning violence and defending the rights of every child to live and learn without fear. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and hold government accountable to ensure that such atrocities do not happen again.
Together, we can ensure that our Schools are safe havens of learning and hope. BRING BACK OUR GIRLS.
